I seldom see a need to go smaller than a HJ 8, but they do make a 6. A split shot (I usually use a small swivel) original floater 7 is old school spy vs spy...

I   am by no means a jerk bait expert , used them very little . Thats being said , there have been two days where the bass were not committing to a shallow crankbait , just slashing at it . I switched to a small X-Rap and that did the trick .

Cultiva Ripppin minnow 65, Yo-Zuri Pins minnow and LC 78 Pointer works good.

ebay is usually the place to find things like that. LC makes both a 65 and 48 size pointer but you need light tackle to throw them.

Yes. I fish the Husky Jerk 8 in the middle of winter, and just let it sit there and jerk it (sometimes just a subtle sweep) every 20 seconds to a minute in 6-12 feet of water. They usually hit it while sitting still, or just as you begin to move it. Less is more in really cold water.

Dynamic lures HD trout is another good option.

I love the duo jerks and the even habe a jerk/cranks that run deep for there size.  Great for hump shallow ledge action.

https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-DUORHRDBT.html?from=basres  the smaller version is good to.  The clear gill slams them for me as does the crome gill.  The others work but those are my favorites.

X-raps are good in the smaller sizes, and Rapala also has the new Rip Stop, which I haven't got to try out yet, but I did buy one the other day. It could be worth a shot.

X-rap XR06!

It's not to often that I'm not reaching for a vision 110 or lc staysee, but when I'm looking for a tiny profile bait the pointer 65 has done well for me.

I also think either Rapala HJ08 or luckycraft SP65 is perfect for smaller profile jerkbait. im not sure if you are spinning or baitcasting user but smaller than these, you are looking into BFS set up.

I fish really small jerkbaits pretty often when the water gets really cold and I'm trying to get anything to bite. The Lucky Craft 65 pointer, Duo Rozante 63, Xrap #4 or #6 are all good.

  • 5 years later...

The Lucky Craft Pointer 48SP is a pretty awesome little suspending jerkbait.

EDIT: I'm not sure how this 5 year old thread came up for me. . . Maybe searching for info on reels suited for jerkbait fishing to see if my Tatula SV TWS is something folks use for that. Doh!
