Terrifying! 

Dang, that will give me nightmares.

Saw the article about that. Driver of the cabin cruiser was sitting down, couldn't see over the console and was on his cell phone. Situational awareness at all times is key to safety. Thank god they weren't hurt or killed. Please be safe everyone.

Glad everyone was OK - which is nothing short of a miracle btw.

Been to way too many of these scenes - vast majority still haunt. 

I can see the selfish cell phone use continuing and with it - more of these brutal incidents unfortunately.

Geez.  Such incredible negligence by the driver of the cabin cruiser.  That is hopefully a lesson he will not soon forget.  Everyone is very fortunate to be alive in this one.

Sometimes fishermen seem to have a death wish.  In my lobstering days, two fishermen are lucky they are still alive.  It was in a dense fog on Buzzards Bay in Massachusetts.  

 

A fisherman had finished hauling his gear and was headed to his home port of New Bedford.  He had to cross the shipping channel in the bay.  He came upon an east bound tug boat and he cut across the stern a few hundred feet behind the tug.

 

He did not realize that a tug, sounding three blasts on its horn meant he had something in tow.  In this case it was a large fuel barge.  The towing cable intercepted the crossing vessel capsizing it.  For good measure, the tug ran over the capsized vessel, sinking it.  

 

Fortunately the captain and his deck hand managed to reach the surface.  The captain had been caught several times in the past with short lobsters and egg bearing lobsters.  Most of the commercial lobstermen mourned their survival.

Good.  Lord.  They're lucky to be alive, and the fact that the captain of the speeding boat is pleading not guilty is beyond my comprehension.

Worse than drunk drivers.

Ain't it bad enough we got people behind the wheel of a car that can't stay off their dang phones. Now its boaters. Us normal people aren't safe anywhere. Hope this clown loses. Too many idiots are getting away with stuff like this. 

I saw in a different article where 2 of the guys were not wearing life jackets and the other persons did not inflate.

 

The story has gained attention due to the suit and the recently released video, put forth by the publications Salmon Trout Steelheader and Angling Oregon, the latter of which is a website operated by McMahon. Later in the video, McMahon stresses the importance of wearing life vests. He and Maess were not wearing one. Durham wore one, but it did not inflate, The Oregonian reported.

While I would have had them in vests had they been on my boat, whether or not they were wearing them is really their choice and should not have any bearing on the case.

...and honestly, would be rooting for more than a little jail jail time, just to get people's attention about how serious inattentive driving is. 

 

I'll say it again: Worse than drunk driving.  A lot worse.
