Live bait. Artificial: Soft plastics.

Easy, it's the senko.  It's really the only thing I every see anglers throwing (tournament or non-tournament).

I didn't know how to make one of those evolution, missing link diagram things, so here's the next best thing...

Thats a good question; and part of the reason the tackle industry is worth billions. But this is a regional and seasonal sport; where what is best in one region or season may not be the best in another. Personally if I could only fish one lure and wanted something which gave me the BEST chance of catching fish in the widest variety of situations. I would pick a 1/2oz Black/Blue Arkie Jig with Plastic craw trailer...it's not a confidence bait for me, but I've caught bass in every season with it , including winter. 

Nothing compares to having a big fish blow up on a topwater lure, whether its a bass,snook, muskie, or a big saltwater game fish.

This Rapala catches monsters when can get them to hit it!

For me it's a wacky stick and more recently the NED.

 

Other would prob say jig/craw or Texas rig worm.

The most used lure I'd guess would be a jig because of how broad that category is. Everything from a crappie jig, ice jig, jighead with any plastic body, skirted bass jig, bucktails, all could be classified as jigs. 

Any color Jig or a fluke, all year go too's.

 

Fished in the right places will produce fish all year under most conditions. 

I've researched all B.A.S.S & FLW tournaments (Pro & Amateur), all amateur tournaments held in Texas Lakes (2001-2018), and the Texas Share-A-Lunker program.

 

What I would have to mention is under the category of plastics would be T-rigs, C-rigs, Wacky, Drop Shot, ECT which are techniques. This list includes all worms, craw worms, lizards, creatures, tubes, Fluke type, & Senko type baits; which is why it's listed as plastic lures.

 

The data shows a staggering 5 to 1 ratio  ?

Seriously, for overall productivity I would have to say your choice of T-rigged soft plastics.
