Fishing with craws in a pond that doesn't have craws?

Recommended Posts

Do you guys think I'll still find success if I use a texas rigged craw in a pond that doesn't have crawfish? Or, what other soft plastics do you recommend for texas rigs that can work in generally any body of water? I really want to get better at fishing them, so any tips or advice is appreciated!

Honestly I dont think it matters. There's no senkos living in my reservoir either but they get bit.

On a side note I fish a reservoir regularly, I've never seen a crawfish and I've looked extensively. The other day I have a jig fish that had pincers sticking out of its throat. You never know!

A ribbon tail worm will usually work when all else fails.

I was growing craws at the lake which I thought there was none for a long time.

Until one day last year,  saw that there was one in the bass's mouth that spit it up.

So, Just throw the craws!

Bass will stalk and kill anything they perceive as a potential meal....natural forage or not.  My cats attacking paper wads kind of reminds me of this.

There are probably craws there. I fished a lake down here and didn't see a craw for 30 years until I saw a claw protruding from a bass's "posterior". Come to think of it, I don't see craws anywhere I fish. I use craws everywhere I fish and bass bite 'em. For that matter, I don't see worms swimming anywhere either.

One of my favorite baits is a craw on a plain weedless Arky head. it flat out gets bites and the bait lasts a lot longer than it will on a T rig.

To bass if it moves it's alive and possible prey.

How do know there isn't crayfish in this pond? It would be rare as crawdads are a native species nearly everywhere.

Bass that have never seen a craw will strike a bait that looks like a craw just because it looks like food.

Never mind that “match the hatch “ nonsense.

Oh man, I just realized I've been fishing a spinnerbait in lakes with no spinnerbaits. Should I stock some 1/8 oz ones and hope most survive to 1/2 oz?...

It should work. I think bass will strike a craw anytime.

An old fly guy once said, "for Bass just put some dangle crap on a hook."  You just have to figure out size, depth, speed and color.  I don't believe shape matters.

Bass are opportunistic feeders. They will eat / attack just about anything that moves, and that looks alive. This is why there are lures that literally look like nothing but still get bit.
