Went thru the painstaking chore of organizing, labeling, and storing various hooks in my Plano tray. After a couple outings in my backpack, I discover that the hooks got all shuffled around and intermixed now outside of their compartments. There has to be a better way. What do you guys do? 

 

Shouldve left them in their respective packages and stored them elsewhere?

 

Seen a few people use a thin fabric or shelf liner and glue it to the inner top of the Plano box. 

 

I use a double sided Plano box for hooks. The only hooks that get shuffled are the really small ones. 

You can put your hooks on safety pins. And store all jigheads in another smaller box. The weight of the jigheads alone will bow the top open enough to allow hooks to wander. Might also try a plano 3700 CDS (the thin one) they seen to be better quality.

I do this as well, works great. 

Label the wall of each compartment with a magic marker

I have a Falcon terminal tackle box that is tight fitting and has four latches. works great, I've never had my hooks jump compartments. I've had it for years and mostly fish from the bank, lots of hiking and running with the box in my backpack hasn't made the hooks mix up.

Safety pins or paper clips.

 

They keep the hooks together and prevent them from wandering while in the tray.

Once i had my hooks divided like i wanted, i superglued the dividers down. Then superglued a shelf liner to lid. Labled each bin and no problems since.

The factory packaging doesn't fit very well in divided boxes.

and i dont place them there

I got tired of hooks sliding around too so I leave them in the original pack and keep them in an open Plano with no dividers.

I bought a few Bass Mafia boxes and I’m thoroughly impressed with the quality and how well they seal up.  I bought one of their 3700 sized bait coffins that should be here tomorrow and I plan to use it for hooks.  I’ll let you know what I think; but, if it’s like the rest of their stuff, I bet it’s gonna do the trick.

Self adhesive rubberized magnets would be another option. Magnetic business cards that the real estate and others leave on your door could be cut and glued down if you have any of them.

I've used hot melt to hold down some small magnets in each well, but the self adhesive works well too.

I use small 1.5" by 3" plastic bags, keeps the hooks safe, together by size and fits in standard boxes.

I wash out an old prescription pill container.  The kind you get from the pharmacy.  I pull out the dividers and I can get 3 or 4 of the pill bottles in a row.  I write down the hook size and type of hook on the pill bottle with a sharpie.

KISS, I either keep them in their pkgs and put them in a 3600 box (no law against cutting or folding if it's a bit big) or use a smaller box with fixed compartments and tight fit. If you throw them loose (specially smaller hooks) into most 3600 or 3700 boxes, they'll misbehave.

Based off the picture it looks like you have a 3700 box with bunch of empty space to accommodate a few hooks. Those work better for lures. I used a thin 3500 box and my hooks never get out of place. They may tangle but that does bother me. 

This is what I use but it looks like it may have been discontinued.

Ton of great responses from everyone. I’m going to try your solution here and eventually migrate the hooks, safety pinned, over to a new Plano thin box one day and revert that standard 3700 solely for lures

I fish from two rigs - the Old Town Canoe & the Pro-V Bass.

Called for a system of storage which would allow me to 'Grab & Go'; meaning rather than having two sets of everything, I wanted it to be semi-mobile and still have everything I needed.

I leave the hooks in there original packs (but label by size) and store them in sperate sleeves organized by type; Heavy, Light EWG, Round Bend, Drop Shot - etc.  I also use this binder for assorted terminal tackle,- split rings, swivels & clip, wacky rigging supplies -

Great call on the paper clips.  Just put all my hooks on paper clips this morning and it’s simple and works great.  No more trying to pick out a hook in a tangled mess.
