Hello Everyone, I just purchased a Dobyns 734 and a Lews reel. I'm going to use it as a "versatile" rod, not just for one or two techniques. The baits I'm going to be fishing on this rod are- Buzzbaits / Chatterbaits / Jigs / Senkos / Swim Jigs / Spinnerbaits/. My question is what kind of Line would everyone recommend putting on that Set up to fish all those different baits with??

2. My President BC is my 'versatile' rig, running pretty much the same lure selection as you have. My recommendation is 20# - 30# braid with or without a leader. I'll be running 20# Power Pro on my rig.

I would use copoly it's a versatile line for all that you wanna do with it

If it is your first baitcaster, then I wouldn't suggest going below 30# until you get used to the reel.  40# even better.  Thin braid can dig in if you don't know how to keep it spooled correctly.  One of my used reels came with 30# braid.  First 15-20 minutes of casting with it were spent removing tight spots.  I use braid on a few reels, but prefer mono or co-polymer.

 

As you can see everyone has their own idea of what to use.  I feel there are a lot of options and none would be wrong.  For something other than braid I would suggest 12#-15# as a good starting point until you find what 'you' prefer.  Brand=your choice.  Lot of good lines.

I would use 12lbs Yozuri Hybrid....

I might over do it but when i fish baitcasters i use 50lb braid, mostly because i dont like the line digging into the spool

A quality 12lb copolymer. I use Silver Thread Excalibur 12lb for spinnerbaits/chatterbaits/pitching

How does it handle?  Have you used AN40 so you can offer an opinion on their differences?  I have 3000 yard spools of 8# and 12# AN40 and like the line.

I would go co-polymer my self.  I like braid for everything but hard baits ie cranks, jerkbaits, spinners, and chatter baits.

never used AN40. I buy the Excalibur in either 1000 or 3000 yd spools also. Excalibur handles very well.

I've been using Excalibur for around 30 years. From 8lb to 12lb. I like Izorline XXX Super Copolymer when using 6lb & 8lb.

Thanks.  I have one spool each of Excaliber and XXX to try.  AN40 also handles very well.

For those type of lures I would spool up with 14lb Cajun Red Line, 12lb Pline CXX or 12lb Yozuri Hybrid
