Hi everyone,

 

I'm sure there are countless discussion topics on this, but what's everyone's favorite go to baits for numbers? What about size? I've noticed alot of people in the tournament I do are throwing a small bait and popping it off the bottom. I cant identify this so does anyone have an idea? 

 

My favorites are senko, jig, cranks

texas rig/wacky rig senko, ned rig, tube, drop shot. they will catch numbers and they will also catch bigguns. i try to fill my limit quick in tournaments and upgrade from there. knowing i have 5 fish in the livewell is my main goal.

Yeah the Ned comes to mind for numbers..and sometimes you can whack some decent ones too.

 

I really like a Carolina Rig for a limit of good fish. Some days its Bubblegum trick worms, lizards, Senkos, etc. I just keep rotating until something clicks. I wish I could figure that part out quicker.

The last few outings a Maxscent creature hawg on a 1/8 oz. shakey head has trumped the ned.  It's been a quick livewell filler.

I almost never try to just fill the livewell in a one day tournament.  Most of the places I fish, you need at least 17lbs to cut a check so a limit of dinks is worthless. I go big from the start. Frog, bladed jig, and big jig all day.

Going after  numbers or size , use the right tool for the job . I have lots of lured that catch quantity or quality . Buzzbaits , spinnerbaits , plastic worms , crankbaits , toads ....

I agree.

 

Even on lakes that do not take as much weight, its the fish that are a little bigger that make the difference.

I have seen where 2nd thru 10th have all been 12lbs and some change and the guy that wins has 14-15 lbs.

Those one or two 3 Lb fish are what makes the difference.

 

In lakes with a bunch of smaller fish, the bigger ones are doing something a little different and so should the tournament angler to target them.

I don't really know if there are real "numbers baits," but I do know there are "numbers spots."

I like a 1/8 oz jig head with Keitech easy shiner

A 5 or 6xd fished in the right spot is the ultimate numbers lure for me. Nothing quite like bombing a cast and pretty much knowing every time you get to a certain spot in the retrieve it's gonna get steam rolled. 

If this fish are shallow and/around shallow docks, Mann’s Baby Minus One.

Your odds of winning or getting in the top 10 fishing for numbers of small bass are slim and none...none went home!

Fish for kickers when the bite is on first and number later when you can scrounge up a limit of keepers.

Choose lures that are effective for the cover and structure you are fishing, lots of choices for small bass, fewer for larger size bass.

If I just need a keeper, 9 times out of 10 I'm dragging a Rage Craw t-rigged with a 1/8 oz. Tungsten bullet weight around grass edges. If I'm looking for a good tournament fish, I'm probably covering water with a swim jig or pitching a big tube. If I'm looking for a kicker then I'm probably throwing a bigger version of what the rest of my livewell guests fell victim to.

 

 

@J Francho is right though, a numbers spot is way more valuable than any bait. 

When it comes to brown bass, I love fishing for numbers ~ 

And the ones that start with a 5, or 6 or even a 7 -

Those are my favorite numbers.

 

And this is a good bait for some of those numbers

Jigs for quality.  Just about any bait will work when the dinks are in a feeding frenzy.
