My wife saw me do something that made her concerned

Featured Replies

I like the smell of bass. I enjoy it very much. So I generally will lip the fish, take the hook out, admire it for a moment, release it and then smell my hands...

My wife saw me smell my hands after a release and looked at me like I was insane. She is a supporter of my love of fishing. But this one threw her for a loop. I also love puppy breath. But thats a bit off topic.

I cant be the only one who does this.... right?

Lol you are fine, weird people just don’t understand. It’s like the smell of manure on the fields in spring time, it stinks but you really can’t beat it.

Bass smell great but don’t eat it raw! I’m not proud to say we tried that once. Young and stupid, worst sushi of all time. Dog breath??? ?.

No not dog breath. Puppy breath. It is distinctly different.  I have had my dogs since birth. I just miss it. Lol

Ha...haha. So many ways you can go with this title. If that’s all she’s worried about, your good bub. Don’t come home smelling like a fresh shower. That sir, is the kiss of death.

To answer your question - I like the smell too.  Especially the first bass of the new season.

That first catch of the year does smell good...even better after it's filleted and broiled

(deep inhale)  AHHHHH!

I do the same thing ... Dont worry about it :)

At least you didn’t kiss the bass before you released it.

Thats my buddies thing. He does it with each fish.....

Not too crazy about the smell of a bass...thought I was the only one who liked puppy breath tho.  I definitely miss my old boy being a pup!

Am I the only one who does that??

I always kiss any quality fish I catch and say thank you...

I like to smell catfish bait .  A store clerk got pretty upset when I popped open a jar of Sonnys in the store .?

Jimmy Houston likes it so much that his trademark is to kiss every one he catches. And FWIW I know what you mean by puppy breath. Goes with those little needle sharp teeth nipping you.

My first bass of the season was on New Year's Day this year and I couldn't smell a thing in 35 degree weather.

Lake Fork Guy, Justin Rackley sniffs his fish before release.

i for one am not a fan of the smell. Hate how it smells on my hands and reel and rod handles. I clean them with Dawn after every trip. Catfish, Fallfish and Carp are even worse.

I always carry anti-bacterial hand wipes to clean up before my ride home.

She ended up sneaking purell into my fishing bag. I use it now after im done fishing. Its just good hygiene but if they made purell that smelled like bass or puppy breath id use it.

Hello, Hannibal Lecter.

I completely understand. I don't necessary enjoy the odor of bass, but I sure like getting the smell on me!!  You can't get bass smell on you and NOT be having a great time!  They go hand in hand. I love the smell because of what I relate it to: and that is good fishing and great times...

Glad I’m not the only one.

A little too much “weird” in this thread... ?
