Personal Worst Bass?

Featured Replies

Mine is this tiny bass I caught about a month ago. I didn't weigh it, probably less than 2 oz?

Little sucker grabbed my popper - all I heard was a little "bloop" and I'm like did something just bite by bait? Couldn't even feel it. I'm proud of this aggressive little fish! He's gonna be a tough one if he hasn't been eaten by now.

What's the smallest bass you actually landed? I know this can't be the record here! And it wasn't foul hooked either.

Caught this one as a by-catch when flyfishing for bluegill.

No pic but I caught one on a Rooster Tail that swam out of the livewell hole in my Gheenoe. Which I believe is 3/8". Couldn't of been 2"s long.

I've caught some a little smaller, but this one is right up there. That's a 1 3/4" KVD 1.0 crankbait for scale.

What I think is funny is you catch a 3" pickerel on a 6" lure. They come up kicking and fighting. Almost like a little pit bull. They seem to think they can kill and eat anything.

The one in my avitar pic may be my smallest ever. From some years back. River largemouth on a Bandit CB. I remember that day of catching quite a few largemouths in a section of down tree branches on Bandits and SK sq. bills. But I don’t look at it as a worst thing.

Mine was a 4" bass that somehow hooked himself on the rear treble of a Zara Spook. There's no way possible he could have eaten something of 41/2 inches. He tried though

I wished the big ones shared the same tenacity. Lol

I've often caught bass, crappie and bluegill smaller than my bait and always get a laugh.

I caught a LMB on Friday the size of my pinkie finger. It was my worst Bass ever as the hook I was using went through it's eye...:sad-021:

Poor guy. He’ll be a nice meal for a big girl though!

I think this photo was of my personal worst. These 3.5 pound dinks just drive me nuts.

Cool responses!

I was on a bad skunk when I caught that little guy in the OP so his size didn't matter too much. I thought it was hilarious. And it was the only fish of the day for two of us.

I actually appreciate every fish I catch. I mean I inspect it, comment on it's colors (Youtube channel). Didn't have the cam on for this or I'd show the video. I'm happy to catch anything where I live!

First time on that lake too so - bonus!

I wish I had a picture of the tiny one I caught this past summer. I wish fishing for panfish with panfish magnets and I was actually getting a hit every cast but having a hard time landing them through the weeds. One that I did land was a tiny bass, roughly the size of a 3" pre-rigged swimbait.

I went back to shore and got the bass gear, and stopped getting bit :(

So the topic should be "What's the smallest bass you've caught", because I can think of other "worst" cases, such as having a big fish come off, or seeing and not catching a huge bass, etc.

But as far as smallest goes, I think mine takes the cake.  I was using a jerkbait around submerged milfoil when I noticed some weed debris on one of the hooks. When I went to clean it off, I noticed it wasn't a weed, it as a bass fry that I was literally skewered on one of the treble hooks!  The poor thing wasn't any longer than the width of the fingernail on my little finger!

This was before digital cameras were around, so I didn't get a pic of it. But I wish I had!

Ah, Glenn... no one will believe you without a photo! And hey... are you pulling a Mike Long on us? Winning hands down by deceitful means? :))

I was thinking the same thing as Glenn, worst case scenarios. Ugh... brings up all kinds of horror stories.

Anyway, I've skewered bass and bluegill fingerlings, but never fry! I think my smallest catches were nipped off the bottom while fly-fishing for trout -tiny trout, darters, fingernail clams, and even mayfly nymphs! I take some credit for them due to my hook-sharpening diligence/obsession. But, then these fish were fouled.

So... we should be talking "fair-caught" bass here. No pulling a Mike Long here. If you say you were using a white zooplankton imitation on a sharpened treble hook... :)

Hmmmm... I know such catches always bring a chuckle, but they don't stick in memory. I have one I closed a video with, that I guessed was around 9cm, bc of the 13cm Rapala it had tried to pick on. :)

Got this one on a number 10 Rapala X-Rap. I find it hard to believe, but this fish showed up during pre-spawn fishing, mid-May, in Northern Wisconsin. Because the bass hadn't spawned yet, this little smallie had to have been hatched the year before.

Yours is a veritable giant compared to some of my "wallhangers."  I've sent them flying straight at me before.  I call it "astronaut training."

Haha I've caught some that were the same size as my ned rig. I have a feel for smaller bass I guess.

I must disagree.

If Personal Best means biggest bass then the obvious definition for Personal Worst would be smallest bass.

:)

More importantly, I've been wondering the past few days why the word "personal" got thrown in with "best" in the first place. Why not just "best"?

Edit to add: And ya foul hooks don't count! :-D I love the photos!

Last summer, I went to a nearby community where there's a large pond smack-dab in the middle, with three little ponds on each corner. I casted out a few times until I felt a pull so slight, I thought I had scraped a rock with the hook underwater. The fight must've been around 3 seconds, until I reeled in the dinker.

Lil guy must've been the length of my pinkie but too bad I didn't bring my phone w me for a picture

on a 1/64 oz. Trout Magnet

Love it! I wish I had my video camera on when I caught the little thing, mainly for my reaction. So funny.
