The lake froze over last night and as you’ve posted we’re in for some frigid temps next week so 137 days (a little sooner for me) can’t come soon enough. As fast as the days and weeks are going by 137 days doesn’t seem so far away.

Was out yesterday taking the wife to her Doc appt - there was still open water on Minnetonka with coots, ducks and snow geese paddling about.

I have OQ testing for work I have to get done tonight. 6poundbass on the other hand....

  • The last 2 years here in the Minneapolis area have been ice out the first week of May... yes May not a typo... So I will predict our ice-off date at May 3, 2020.  Which is 172 days.  Argh..

  • We got 3 inches of snow Monday night, but I'm headed out Saturday we're supposed to be in the mid 50's.   Saw some guys getting gas this morning and they are pre-fishing for a 100+ boat tour

Yes Sir ~

Days and night can be a little long,

(especially heading into the winter solstice)

but the weeks seem to go by pretty fast.

Been enjoying single digit air temps past few days with sub zero numbers over night.

The start of winter is still more than a week away . . .

Awesome.

~124 Days to go ~

And barely a week after I still saw open water on a couple of bays...the morons are out on the ice.

Going for the Darwin Award.

I just checked my 2020 calendar and I'm shooting for March 9. That's the first full moon of the month and the day after we change our clocks. I'm cheating a little because it's a power plant lake that doesn't freeze over and opening week-end is 7th-8th. I don't want to know the days, but fishing season closes for waterfowl hunting on Nov.1. It's more than three days off the water and anytime more than that is torture. If I had a garage, the boat would be inside and I could sit on that pedestal and do some dry fire practice.

You, my friend and all who deal with anything longer, have my sympathies.

As long as you have 4 inches of ice, it's good.  In a week you can easily get there.

Does anyone remember grade school, learning about cause and effect?

Well, friends... It finally makes sense to me.

Is that picture this year? We have zero snow here.

First day of winter and it’s going to feel like early spring for the next week. Ice out will be probably Tuesday. ?

Just let it happen!  It is just natural selection!

As we've discussed, The Snow Belt is real.

Warm(er) up here too.

Happy pup.

I’ll add mine! It’s been awhile

since I have been on here. This  year ice out was around April 9th .. next year I’m hoping to be getting fish by April 5th ! Let’s shoot for about a week closer. It’s still be decently warm here in western Ny, been in the low 40s last couple days .. hoping it doesn’t get crazy in January and February.

We had some ice, not safe to walk on.  It'll be gone by X_mas.  gonna be in the 50s.

It's 60* today and the local ponds that had skim ice a couple days ago are wide open. 7 days from now highs will be in the low 20's. Unless we get a polar vortex again this year, and providing Jan and Feb temps are "normal" I don't envision the lakes getting more than 4-8" of ice which makes for open water in early to mid March.

Interesting ~

Cooler version of the same theme here too.

Be very interesting to have open water in March . . . . . .
