I have Gamma and red label on some rods. I was thinking the gamma has held up nicely and wanna keep it on till next year sometime. I don’t know why I wanna keep that and replace red label. Might just replace it all just wanted some opinions

I have sniper fc with 3 seasons on it. I in the winter put the line back on the package spool and put it back on reel come ice out.

 

Lasts forever on baitcast and about 10-15 minutes on spinning

All fishing line weakens with use, meaning you put the line on a reel and fish with it, including braid line. The amount of degradation depends on how you use it and how often it's used.

Line gets abraided, nicked, stretched when trying to pull out snagged lures and simply being cast through the rod guides. 

What condition is the line you have in? 

You store line indifinately if kept in a cool dark place.

I've had 6# Invisx on a reel for 5 years, and 6# Tatsu on a reel for 4.  I only changed them out because the line was getting a little low on the spool.

I’ve been out probably 100-120 times this year. When I hit brush or flip I usually cut off the line if I see abrasions. Knew it would wear out but still fishes good and feels good. I treat it with the kvd conditioner which to me actually seems to keep it in good condition compared to before. Not life altering by any means but in better shape and I keep rods stored indoors. Never really paid much attention to the stress stretch would put on. Kinda feel like changing it now cause I’ll pull myself over to the snag on a yak

I change out line once a year, sooner if the condition warrants it. The reason being is that every time I fish, no matter where, time of year, ect it is, I'm hoping for a new PB Bass, hopefully a few lbs over DD..I just don't want to jeopardize having it come off due to a problem with my line. 

And rods that lay on the deck all day baking in the sun will take its toll on mono and flouro over time.

Kind of the same.  I usually change Invizx about every other year and I have had Tatsu on my main setup for 4 years and it's still good as the day I got it but like you it's getting low and I will need to change it before next season.

Keeping your reels inside your house will make it last a long time. You can feel with your fingers when it’s bad. 

I usually replace mine once a year. All I use is red label. Reading this makes me wanna see how it holds up to being on there longer

Forever...I replace it as needed, but it NEVER wears out.

Fluorocarbon is much more resistant to environmental degradation than mono or even copolymer lines.  A few of the years during my testing the rods were in the boat all year.  In some cases, they remained on the front deck for days at a time.

In my experience Red Label is trash following the first backlash. I have found it kinks terribly and becomes incredibly weak at the kink point. Personally, I will never buy another spoil, but I have others like it. I have not had good experiences with it.

Thanks to all for the input. I’m gonna keep it on for now and fish through the winter with it. Once spring rolls around I’m more than likely gonna replace it. I’ve never had gamma break off but 2 times on casts (both were jackhammers btw). Just feel like it would be a better idea unless it feels as good at the end of winter

On my baitcasters, it lasts about an hour.  I have a lot of partial spools that will last a very long time in the pole building.  But I have to admit, it works well for wind chimes.

I usually change mine every year but to be honest I could probably get 2-3 out of it. Last year I did not change out my line on one reel until I backlashed and tangled the line getting the bird's nest out in August and with a little KVD the line was not showing any real signs of degradation.

My casting gear is either FC or braid.

My spinning rigs are all braid.

Quality FC is fairly durable and depending on a rigs use & or abuse - FC spooled rigs can last a season for me.

Either way I only replace the 'top shot' down to backing (mono) if & when I need to.

Braid routinely goes 'several' seasons before needing replacement and that's usually because it's getting short on the spool; again only replaced down to the mono backing (about 1/3 backing 2/3's braid).

Also, I will 'end for end' both FC & braid down to the backing one time, before I can it.

Saves a little $$.

I never empty spools at seasons end just because - unless I plan to have a particular reel(s) serviced professionally. 

btw - bulk line purchase during big sales is a good thing. 

(think 1000 yd spools)

About once a year I lose my mind and try it "one more time" for about an hour, or first break.
