I’m back after 20 years

Featured Replies

I always fished since I was little. When I was 25 I got into bass tournaments. Had the Ranger bass boat. Did pretty good! Living the dream Right!?! At 39 my ex told me I ruined our marriage and caused our divorce. So I quit fishing for 20 years. This year after a horrific family tragedy I decided to get back into fishing. I find a lot of peace of mind out on the water when fishing. It’s a therapy I like!
Now that I’m back into this I’m finding all these different lures I never heard of (chatterbaits for one), techniques that I have no clue about, great tackle companies that are gone and lots of company names I’ve never heard of *** also.
I feel like I’m starting over again so you will probably see lots of questions from me.

I don’t want a power boat ever again so I went the kayak path. I’m finding I like the paddling and it’s good exercise which I really need. 2020 I’m going to try out a few NYKBF tournaments. Should be fun!

Welcome back!  I bet the fish missed you.  I like your setup, is that a Bonafide?

Jackson Big Rig. I got a great deal on a used one that I couldn’t pass on.

I really want(ed) a Bonafide but no dealers close to me to try one out first.

I think you'll enjoy the big rig.  Such a stable boat.  Let us know how you do on the KBF trail!  I still may fish the SE trail this year, just haven't made my mind up.

Welcome to a great site.

I too was in a similar situation as you " except divorce " and got marred in all the new tackle, techniques and lure specific rods and reels.

I'm starting to get it figured out, you will too.

Welcome to the new millennium, 20 years ago was the turn of the century.

Johnny Morris of BPS owns Ranger Boats now, a few things have changes except the bass.

Drop shot with spinning tackle was a west coast thing, now coast to coast.

Dart jigs are now Ned rigs with mushroom heads and miniature Senkos, the current panacea to catching bass.

Spook walking baits replaced by Whopper Ploppers.

Everyone has a frog out outfit.

Swimbaits are another west coast lure that moved coast to coast with smaller versions like Kietech.

Finesse fishing is almost as popular as power fishing, with pitching replacing flipping.

Welcome back, by Jan 2020 you will be veteran pro.

Lots of kayaker's on this site, you have company.

Tom

PS, I am old school or more accurately older then most members.

Welcome GTN. I stopped fishing for almost 10 years, got back into it just after the start of this year. Alot changed even since then. ned rigs, a rod and reel for every technique, ect, ect, oh and the rising cost of everything.

Like Tom, I'm also old school, and like Tom, I'm old too...lol Anywho, enjoy your time here.

Welcome aboard!

Ah, the Bait Monkey. He jumps up and down on your back telling

you that you NEED new fishing stuff. Gets worse the more you

enjoy the sport :D

Welcome back.  My story is somewhat similar.  I didn't get out, or back into fishing for quite as serious reasons as you, but I was also amazed by all the new lures and techniques, and by how much everything had gone up in price!  This site is a great resource.  You will probably find most of your questions have already been answered, so don't be afraid to poke around.

Don’t worry, my friend. He’s always been around all of us but we never knew it and he will make his presence known to you. Any time you feel the sense or urge to acquire fishing gear of any kind, especially when you know you don’t really “need it” or feel you “have to get it” that’s the bait monkey whispering in your ear.

please check out the thread whose title is escaping me at the moment but it’s about the latest acquisitions we make. Truly a bait monkey supported thread. ?

Welcome back! 20 years is a long time, I'm sure it feels like a foreign world but everyone around here are always willing to answer questions and provide support..

What!?! What happened to a Forest Wood?

Welcome, you’ll fit right in. Getting geared up is half the fun.

Forrest Wood is still around as a spokesman for the FLW tour, but FLW was recently purchased by MLF, Major League Fishing. Ranger Boat company was sold in 1987, 1991 when you were still fishing and a few more times since.

Last year Ranger Boats management started a new company after Johnny Mooris bought them called Vexes Boats. lots of boat company changes over the past decade.
