Your swim jig setups

Featured Replies

I'm currently throwing my swim jigs on two setups:

In light of no cover I'm using a 7ft veritas medium fast with a 7.1 to 1 reel and 12lb izorline xxx

For cover in using a st. Croix 7ft1 medhvy fast spinnerbait rod with a 7.1 to 1 reel and 15lb izorline xxx

What does your guys rundown look like?

Also what are your favorite swim jig brands?

Cover or no - Pflueger Supreme (7.1:1/29IPT) on a Diawa Aird-X 7' MH/F, 30# Power Pro with 12# YZH leader

Strike King

Daiwa Excellor baitcast with 6'6" medium Veritas Fast. Dirty jigs. This is being upgraded to a Tatula 100 and Tatula XT 7' MHF, just waiting on delivery.

I use a MF to MHF baitcasting rod with 6.x:1 reel.  Same rod(s) I use for crankbaits.  I am usually throwing a Dirty Jigs or 6th Sense Divine Swim jig with Keitech trailer.

7’2” Moderate-Fast, Medium Heavy Shimano Expride.  Reel is a Shimano Curado 70 8.1:1 spooled with 30 lb Sufix 832, sometimes Yo-Zuri Hybrid 10-12 lb leader.  Dirty Jigs Finesse Swim Jig 3/8 oz and Keitech Swing Impact trailer, perch/bluegill colors here in the Northland.

7’2 mod/fast mh expride, bantam in 7.1:1. 40 pound power pro to a 15 pound maxima ultra green leader. Sieber shot caller swim jigs with a rage swimmer or Xzone swammer trailer.

Loomis 843c MBR, and Curado K or Tatula 150 with 30lb braid, to 15lb leader. Sometimes I throw it straight braid too.

I only use Boss swim jig heads, and assemble my own jigs. I always use Cabela's 5" swim minnow trailers.

1/4 or 3/8oz sizes, only two colors. I use a white/purplish skirt, with a silver trailer, and a bluegill skirt , with a bluegill trailer.

My current swim jig setup is a Daiwa Tatula SV with 15lb Seaguar AbrazX on a Dobyns Sierra 734c. I typically only use the 6th sense swim jigs, but have bought a few different brands this winter just to try them out this year.

843 MBR, new Tatula SV, 12 lb Assassin. I don't really have a favorite; anything with a bullet head and a good hook in a bluegill pattern. Favorite trailer is a Little Dipper.

MegaBass Orochi XX with Tatula SV TW.

Although I recently bought a Spec R I'm liking as well.

Falcon Cara Head Turner with a Tatula SV and 15lb Red Label

Endurance 714 with Lews Tp 6:1 with 50lb braid. I'll also throw them on Endurance 723 with a Lews Tp and 30 lb braid from time to time, especially if I want to tie on 1/4 oz with a compact trailer.  I really like the kietech swing impact, but I'll also throw a rage swimmer or a rage craw.. I just got a new tatula 7'1 heavy and put an Origin C on it.. it will probably get bladed jig and swim jig action too.  Just spooled it with 50lb braid a couple hours ago

Powell Inferno 7' MHXF, 7 spd Chronarch, 30lb braid, 1/4 oz ECO Pro Sick Boy swim jig or various finesse jigs

Tatula XT 7'3" HF, Tatula SV 7 spd, 50lb braid, 3/8-1/2 oz 6th Sense Divine swim jigs or others similarly weighted.

Daiwa Fuego CT 8.1:1 on a 7' Dobyns Fury 703C with Sufix Advance 12# and Siebert Outdoors Swim Jigs exclusively. For trailers, the SK Rage Menace, Keitech Swing Impact Fat and SK Rage Bug.

I only really use two sizes;

  • 1/4oz Seibert Shot Callers in a custom color to match the SK KVD Magic color w/ a 3/75" Rage Swimmer in KVD Magic
    • PA 611M+ rod. Steez svtw, 14lb Sniper. - General bank walking
    • xx Gen1 EMTF rod, TD-Z, 15lb Tatsu - Longer range/larger water
  • 3/8oz Boss Bullet heads, tied with a basic baitfish color, 4.75" Rage Swimmer in KVD Magic
    • MB FMJ rod, Steez A, 18lb Shooter or 40lb PP V2 - heavy grass/hydrila

I use the 1/4oz ones far far more often, it's likely the presentation I throw the most.  It catches them year round in almost any kind of water.  I can fish it fast, I can drag it on the bottom.  It's a great anytime lure.

I love how different price wise the setups mentioned are...nothing wrong with it just shows there is more than one way to skin a cat! For instance I am using a combo in the 250 range...some combos mentioned in here are 3 to 4 times that much. That's awesome! The two jigs im using are the BOSS bullet heads and the BOSS standard swim jigs which look very similar to the siebert shot caller from what I can tell. Both I use the 1/4 oz size since I only shore fish. I make my own skirts..I throw a bluegill pattern 75% of the time and a shad the rest.

No leader

No.

I use braid on several casting rods and use leaders on exactly 0 of them.
