Yea I bought the Megabass Orochi XX Enforcer for my Shimano Exsence 4000 and I abosloutely love it! I can't see using any other brand anymore. They're just so d**n expensive but worth it!

I liked my Orochi’s until 2 of the 3 snapped.  In 40+ years of fishing I’ve only ever snapped one other rod. I might sell my remaining Braillist because I find myself afraid to use it. Hesitant to buy one of their more expensive rods now...

I now have seven Orochi's and haven't broke any.  I did break two Levante's which were covered in their recall.

For me it was a couple with XF tips when loaded with lures below the max rating but above the mid-point.

Of the two, SD. Brailist isn’t worth 350 and is far to long if the DS is a bit much.

Both would be a good choice, just depends on whether you want something with a little more power or not. I believe the bandersnatch is now called the the blade in the p5 series

Haven’t tried the Bandersnatch / Blade but just got the Super Destroyer and just love it 

 

I have a slew of Loomis rods… But there is just some thing FUN about the SD 

i've dipped my toe in the MegaBass rods.  but i am enter this pool of madness slowly.  really slow.

 

i imagine it is like flying 1st-class.  it would be difficult to got back to the coach-seats afterwards.

Be very careful going down the Megabass rabbit hole - once you do it's difficult turning back, and can get awfully expensive quickly!

I would go FMJ. I have the X Bites, which I assume is the closest rod to the FMJ and it's pretty awesome. Super light, balanced and crazy sensitive. If I needed a 1/2oz+ jig rod the FMJ would be first on my list.

If you are prone to breaking a rod from time to time, the 844 GLX would be my choice. I have had mine for years and love it. But on the other hand, I am going to assume the P5 FMJ is going to be a touch more sensitive and bit more powerful. I have 5 Megabass rods, soon to be 6, and love each one but I did have to warranty one. It went great and they treated me well but they really wanted to dig deep and try to assess accountability for the defects. It was weird.  Also, Megabass USA is a really small operation. They gave me the impression it was just a handful of guys in an office and a few guys looking over warranty issues. 

Any others I should consider?

And here I am cringing cause this buying season I've got combos that broke the $300 barrier.

I could get a $500 rod, which would be the best rod I’ve ever owned and shuffle some reels around. 
 

Or I could get an Expride (or other $250ish rod) and have enough for a new reel also. 
 

 

I did the Mega Bass deal for a while with Destroyer's. Orochi's and a couple Levantes. 

They are beautiful rods. They just didn't overwhelm me as being all that special but that's just me.

I would buy the Loomis that's in your budget and not look back. I'm fortunate that I get to fish a lot of rods and the NRX is as good as it gets in my hands. Let's face it, if someone can't catch em on any of the rods that's been mentioned they should probably try another sport, but it's your bank account and your choice.

Very good point. 

The Poison Adrena would be a great mid priced rod to try out.

I hit the mother load today. $350 total for TWO new orochi xx rods. Going to pick them up tomorrow. 
choosing two between perfect pitch, braillist, and Diablo spec r! 

This left enough for me to get a jdm Metanium!

Are there any places I can buy MB rods that are made in Japan?   Do they make any of their rods in Japan?

None of Megabass' mainstream rods are made in Japan.  

I believe these (Arms Super Leggera) are but I don't know how hard they are to get. The Hook Up has them listed but I don't quite understand the options, semi custom I guess.

I've gone full bore stupid on MegaBass and already own the Levante Shakeyhead which is just beautiful, and performance is excellent.     My problem comes from spending big money on non Japan or US built rods.    

 

To be fair to MegaBass, I couldn't find any Shimano, or Daiwa Made in Japan rods easily either.    This has been the biggest surprise after coming back to the sport after a long hiatus.      I see $500 rods that are Made in China, but the reviews and the rods themselves are beautiful.   That Levante I got was made in Vietnam and it cost $250.   

 

I've just never bought a lemon of a rod or reel when it was made in Japan, I've bought a reel I didn't like, but not a lemon by a long shot.   Same goes for USDM rods.    But atlas MegaBass has a magic sauce to their products that should come with a warning label for addiction ?

Yeah it's just one of those things I've come to accept. Made in China doesn't have to mean poor quality. I'll print you out some little MADE IN JAPAN stickers and you can stick them to all your rods and reels. ?
