Especially for topwater lures, it seems people say get black and get bone. Whats the difference from using a gloss white or a chrome? I noticed this is especially true with walking baits and plopper style baits. I have a sexy shad Berkley choppo and the bottom 2/3 is gloss white. I'm wanting to get another smaller choppo and am looking at bone, Chrome with black back, and sexy shad again. I get being topwater odds are the fish sees the bottom and maybe some of the side. So whats the deal with Bone?

Bone, French Pearl, solid white, NC Shell, Powder, whatever variation of white/ish color a company offers, it just flat out works for me.

Probably looks like a dying fish on the surface. I've heard black is easier to see underwater because fish think it's a silhouette. 

I use a black Choppo at night or in really dirty water. But to me it seems like 9/10 people on you tube I watch dont throw white or gloss white its always bone. Just wondering if it looks different underwater or something. 

Two reasons:

 

1) it catches fish 

2) it’s the color of a shad 

In surface lures, bone is easy for fisherman to see. The white or bone colored underside is the color of many of the bass prey. Shad, frogs, etc.

*Bone is pretty close to the Sexy Shad color you already have - I would consider to add a Ghost Bluegill and the Maverick color so you have a light color , dark color and a transparent color . **If I could only have one size Choppo - it would be the 105 size by far with the three colors I mentioned !!

Was gonna say 2 things mentioned above:the bone color more closely resembles the belly color of fish and the most important thing is it works.

I agree. My theory is the fish belly white color and contrast.

 

It works for me.

Is a great color. In my opinion bone is more productive than white. 
 

Bone is more productive for Greenies than BrownBass. 
 

Bone as a topwater is good but black, gold , chromes and bass patterns generally work better for me. 
 

Just my findings, I’m sure it varies or opposite for many. 
 

Can only recommend buying a couple of Bomber Model A’s in Bone w/ Orange belly. 

Bone has been around a long time and has worked for decades when other prettier colors have faded from memory. Bone works everywhere for all bass species, a must have color.

Back in the early 70's to early 80's before bone was popular Rebel plastic was bone color and anglers sanded off the outer color so the lure was bone, top water and divers.

Down south its bone with an orange belly &/or red around the gills/mouth.

 

Contrast, bone stands out under most sky conditions & water clarities.

 

Easy for the fish it see...easy for the fisherman see!

Almost any bomber long A is bone when you scratch the paint off with a pocket knife. People have been winning a lot of money slow wobbling that plug on top for a lot years. It is very difficult not to soil your linens when a smallmouth comes up from 20 feet down to grab a long A, then dive right back down 

One of my favorite Spooks was the old white with a red head. I lost my only one last summer. For some reason, it flat out caught more fish than any other color. I've even painted the head of a couple of bone colored  Spooks red, but they don't seem to work as well.

I have a gloss sexy shad spook but haven't really had any luck on it. Same for the choppo in the same color. But my matte black choppo at night has got my biggest bass of the year. No pattern, just black with a little orange under the chin. So I'm really beginning to believe the patterns are for fisherman and not fish. I was torn between bone and the chrome with black back because I've had good luck with a chrome blue back lipless. Maybe I'll get both!! 

Listen to the "scientific experts" and its red or green that bass can see

 

Listen to actual guys on the water and every color under the sun will work better than the others given a specific condition

 

Go with what you have confidence in- I have a DT16 painted in matte black and its one of my best cranks

Yet you dont see too many cranks in black
