I know bait caster and spinning reels use different grease and oil. Can you share share what you use for your spinning reel? I have a shimano stradic and Daiwa ballistic that need some maintenance.

I've never used different - same Abu grease and oil on my BCs and Spinners. Haven't had issues yet.

Shhhh! I told my Stradics and Saharas otherwise.

For baitcasters I prefer a thicker grease like Cals Tan. 

 

For spinning reels, I use Yamalube. 

I use ReelX on both.

Ardent reel butter and Shimano oil is what I use on all of my reels.

I prefer a drag grease on gears of both casting and spinning reels, as well as 90wt lower unit oil in spinning reel bearings and non-spool bearings in my casting reels.  Casting spool bearings get TSI-321.

For spinning gear I stick with the Shimano stuff, Bantam oil and Shimano drag grease.  A small amount of each goes a long way. 

There’s no such need or requirement to use different grease in casting and spinning reels. Cals, Yamalube, Superlube are all good choices.

I was thinking about getting cals tan for casting and purple for spinning. Now I guess I will just get one. I live in California, so do you recommend cals tan or purple? Thanks!

Just make sure to use right handed grease for right handed casting reels and left handed spinning reels!  

 

Of course I'm kidding.  The only special lubricant I use is Cal's drag grease for the drag. I have a garage full of lubricants and usually just pick something synthetic with the weight I'm looking for.  I've found that keeping them cleaned and using the right amount of lubricant is much more important than what type.  Obviously is you use something that's way too thick or thin, it can bring up problems. But mostly reels aren't high speed or high stress machines, so their requirements are pretty broad.  It's dirt, mud, and gunk that ruins more gears than using the "wrong" lubricant.

Robert Lamm suggests Purples

I fish in the cold for part of the year and have found Cal's Light to have excellent performance for me in all temperatures.

I think Light is a third option, it's a reddish color if I remember correctly.
