My lightest power baitcasting combo is Edge rod UL 7'6" slow action, Lure weight 1/16 with Aldebaran MGL size 30, I spool that with 10lb test J braid and 4lb INVIZX.

Remember it is not BFS set up.

I wonder how light anyone would go with their bait casting combos?

I use a Gloomis Bronzeback ml with a Curedo X 70 and 6# fluorocarbon line for Neds.

I'm a 'heavyweight' in BC - Pflueger President XT on a Dobyns 703C

 

Anything lighter gets tossed on spinning gear.

My UL spinning gear is a L.  BC medium is as long as I go.  I don't like to use any baits that require spinning either.

 

Shimano SLX currently on a mh/f rod, but I'm in the market for a m/f rod.  I have 10 lb mono on that rig.

Mine is a custom Kistler Magnesium 7’ casting rod (it’s really 7’ 1” according to my tape measure) built on the lightest Magnesium spinning blank they had at the time, with Fuji Guides and a Shimano Aldebaran with all Boca Bearings in it. I think Abec 5 Lightnings. It’s like 4.8oz for the reel and about 3.8oz for the rod. Casts the 50 spool to the arbor knot with the right baits and no wind. It doesn’t like wind, though.

 

How do you like the Edge rod?

I have looked into the BFS stuff and decided it wasn't for me so the lightest set up I have is a Daiwa Steez SV TWS and a 6'8'' M St. Croix Legend Elite.  Everything else gets done on spinning gear. 

I thought you were asking what was our lightest baitcast combo from your thread title.  I haven't weighed all my rods, but the Okuma Helios 7' M is the lightest of all that I've weighed so far at 3.34 oz. (94.69g).  Lightest reel probably is 5.6 oz. (158.76g).  I've gone by the listed reel weights.  Haven't weighed reels empty.  Did weigh 3 with line.  Steez 103H with 12# InvizX  is 5.71 oz. (161.88g) and the lightest of the three.  So 9.05 oz. (256.56g) total.

 

But reading inside your post makes it seem you are asking about the lightest lure baitcast rod.   My lightest lure rated rod is a close second to the Helios at 3.6 oz.  An OG Falcon 6'9" LF Expert.  Lure range 1/16-3/8 oz.  It is the lightest for bass.  Reel will be a Pixy which I think are listed at 5.8 oz. (164.43g).  Have a finesse spool on the way so reel weight may be a bit less that that.

 

However, I recently got an Ace Hawk Double with two tips.  A Light and Ultra Light.  The Ultra Light is rated .018-.14 oz. (.5-4g).  Not a rod I plan on using for bass.  Not even with the Light tip rated .07-.21oz. (2-6g).  Heck....I worry about catching a bluegill on either tip. 

 

It doesn’t matter if it is label as BFS reels/ rods, but your setup is pushing envelope with trout rod and super shallow spool reel. BTW that 1/16oz trout magnet jig head got nothing to do with bass, the jig weight about 2.2 grams plus a good size 2.5-3” paddle tail plastic, you are looking at 4 grams (1/8oz). The hook size is fine #2 (same as Zman mushroom head) but too soft and get blended easily. If you looking for 1/16oz jig head for bass, I recommend Hayabusa jig head #1 hook)

Let look at my setup, for bass the lightest weight I would go is “Anything weightless” from Zoom tiny fluke, 3” roboworm Ned worm, baby rage menace all the way to 6 or 7” Roboworm straight tail. I might consider 1/8oz Pro roadrunner as bass lure for light “under spin” which I use quite often when target both bass and crappie.

 

3” Berkeley fluke style with 7’ spinmatic trout rod.

 

Double rig zoom tiny fluke with 7’2 solid tip Ajing rod and reel rated BFS. Which I won’t do this again for sure. It take too long to get the bass this size in. It it torturing, can’t imagine if a 3lb bass (my avg catches) hit it.

You know I catch bass on 1/32 trout magnet jig head as well.

 

HP 742C and a Curado 70 MGL.  Plan to use for the first time this week.  

Lightest rod and reel combo?  Kuying Teton TTC602LS paired with a Revo ALC-BF7, whole combo comes in at 7oz on the dot.  It almost feels like a toy in my hand.

These 3 are the ones that stick out fully dressed. Certainly not the lightest on the market but a perfect weight and balance for what I’m looking for

 

Kistler KLX squarebill rod 6’9” MH with Metanium, line, and bait is 10.5 ounces

 

Falcon Cara 7’4 H with Chronarch, line, texas rig plastic is 11.5 ounces

 

Falcon Expert 7’3 H with Chronarch, line, texas rig plastic is 11.5 ounces. 

I don't finesse much. I love power fishing.

But I do have a ML that was my late dad's. I haven't figured out how to use it yet. 

Medium Fast is as low as I go.

Falcon Bucoo medium/mod with a Lew's LFS.

 

Use it for crankbaits and such. Honestly, it's too slow a blank for me now that I have a better idea how I like to fish, and I feel like a medium/fast would suit me better.

 

Mine is a Kuying Teton UL, 1-4g lure rating.  It's a 100% noodle, but I have managed to land a few 1-2lb bass on it.  I mostly use it for trout and white perch, but a few times I year I take it out for wading for smallies and it's a blast, even a little 12" can bend the rod almost in half.  

*Loomis 852c + Steez SV TW = 9.2 oz

*Phenix Feather 7'1" Light + Daiwa Air TW = 8.5 oz

 

With the Air TW reel, can throw easily down to 1/16th oz with 7 lb Sniper. 

For bass? NFC 721-1 LMX X-Ray XF, with a Daiwa PX68 and a stock spool.

A St. Croix Mojo Bass 6'8" M/XF "Topwater rod. I would prefer to throw anything lighter on spinning gear.

St. Croix 6’6” ML-F with a Curado “G” or similar letter reel - lol - with 8# InvizX.

I tie flies with the 1/64 T mag. heads and Ive caught bass up to 5.5lbs on them.  You don't have use a bait exactly how its marketed to be used to be successful.  As long as you have a smooth drag and enough room to wear the fish out your good.  I agree about the Hayabusas, great keeper, effective weedguard, sharp hook, head wont chip and realativly inexpensive the Brush Easy is just about perfect head for 2"-3" baits.  The Beat Roller and Baby Shooters are great too.
