I have finally used up numerous spools of 4 lb. mono and braid in my supply cache. The most recent spool of mono was from 2009 (Sufix Superior) and I haven't kept up with who is making the better mono nowadays. I've decided to revert several spools back to mono as I mostly cast tiny jigs and that isn't working so well with braid (for me).

 

Any brands stand out that you want to recommend? I'll be looking for a bulk spool if possible. Focused mainly on the diameter but also want it supple.

Stick with Sufix and go with Advance Mono - you can get it direct from Rapala in 1200yd spools.

I tried the Advance Mono in 10 lb and didn't like it. Felt...un-supple? Not sure. Maybe I need to give it a look in a store.

My friend praised in SOS line for 2-4lb. I use Izorline 4lb. Be careful not all line diameters are the same. My izorline diameter is about 6lb red rebel .007”, XL should be about the same.008”, Sufix advance from I’ve heard is bigger even though spec shows.008”

Sunline Super Natural 4# is .0065D. Softer easy casting line.

Maxima UG Copolymer 4# is .0070D, 5 lb is .0081D, extremely strong line, not as soft as SUnline SN.

PS, I use Max 5# for finesse bass fishing, caught a 6.4 a week ago. 1983 I caught 14 lb 13 oz World Record Yellowtail on 4# Max....strong line!

Sunline super natural is a good line.

I also use daiwa J-braid as my light line braid.

4# Berkley XL is .008D = to 5# Max UG and 25% less knot strength. Testing should be apples to apples or equal diameter.

XL or Sufix Elite.  Been years since I have tried either one but both were great.  Another as mentioned above that I like is Sunline Natural.   I would consider the line diameter when you go with this light of line.  You may fine 6lb in some brands an equally as good option. 

Trilene xl or stren original 4lb. Change it often if you fish multiple times a week 

4lb P-Line, moss green. Blends in with green tinted water nicely and it's strong.

I use Trilene XL on my ultralight spinning setup.

 

It was spooled on there years ago and still performs perfectly.

Another Maxima fan here.  I typically use 2lb through 5lb diameters depending on what I'm targeting.  I like the 5lb if I'm fishing crappies in submerged brush piles, it's tough stuff and a similar diameter to competing 4lb mono.

I still use just plan old Stren.  Worked for years

Copolymer has been my choice with kid fishing, and YoZuri would be my choice with the Zebco.  

 

for 10 years, was buying Kamikaze copolymer from Oz, and my daughter could fish L/UL spinning tackle without assistance (she hates assistance).  

 

There are some really good low-memory fluorocarbons, but they're too thin to work well on Zebco.   The low memory fluoros are also too springy for kids using spinning tackle - they jump off the spool.

Low memory.

I have been using Trout Magnet's 2lb line. It's a little bit thicker than Trilene XL 2lb, but not quite as thick as 4lb and handles decently.

I use Pline CX 6lb on my crappie rigs. It is. 0084 so basically the same line diameter as the 5lb Maxima the other guys recommended and it handles good and has decent strength.

Trilene XL and original Stren are difficult to beat and easy to find. 

Trilene XL and Stren original in clear are my go-to line choices. I haven't really tried anything else because these lines have done the job well for me for years.

I like to use Leland Lures Trout S.O.S 4lb line for my ultralight combo, Its really tough line. 

I use sufix Siege in 4 pound test for my ultralight reels. its awesome
