I admit this one seems mighty silly. Anyways, anyone color spinnerbait wire? Asking this question gives me 'bored winter' vibes but this question has been bugging me over the past couple days. Read in an old bassmaster magazine that bass are particularly attracted to green and blue. Got some ideas. Anyways, has anyone done it and what were your results? 

The only thing silly would be wasting your time coloring the wire.  It won't make any difference.

Well, a lot of pros claim red hooks increase bites so I wouldn’t totally diss a colored spinnerbait wire but I don’t think bass are keying into the wire, it’s the blades and skirt.  

A lot of pros said red line was invisible, too.

Maybe if you color the wire red it will give the impression to the bass that the bait is wounded and there is a steady stream of blood flowing vertically from wounded bait making for an easy meal.   ....or maybe not.  Probably not. 

So, is that a thin stream of blood shooting out in front of the bait?

This is what I thought of as well.  
 

I don’t think it is a silly thought.  Some Ned rig guys will say how a red or chartreuse jig head outproduced a black head on a certain day.  

Humans are really good at proving themselves right.

Kind of like you're doing now?  I know some respectable members here that subscribe to the red hook theory.  Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but I don't see how this would be any different?  Is @A-Jay wasting his time putting on some red hooks?  Niggemeyer had an article about it in his forum too, didn't he?  You're sounding a little high and mighty here imo....

Red hook theory is phooey. That's been my opinion since they came out. The finish didn't hold up very well either. That was a fact when I tried them.

So that’s your opinion but it’s definitely correct?

You know, I’ve never thought about it. Okay , I’m done thinking about it. No.

I would think that if coloring the wire was good - then you'd want to color it in such a way that it blends into the background...not stands out.

 

Transparent Aluminum anyone...make it invisible?

RE: the red hook deal. I bought into that years ago, bought a bunch of red hooks for my baits, used em for months. My final opinion is that the red hooks made no difference in my catch ratio compared to the standard hooks.

I also us e to add some red marker to the gills on my swimbaits, thinking that might get more bites, again it made no difference in catching fish.

 

Thanks for the comments thus far. With some of them, I knew what I was in for, lol. All I know is, I don't know. I absolutely love spinnerbaits, but they make no sense to me. What works is often different than what I think. @king fisher and @riverat have mentioned black spinnerbaits under sunny conditions. That makes zero sense to me, but the bait monkey says I have to try it. Anyways, I asked this because I'm always trying to tinker with spinnerbaits. I have a whole lot of fun doing it.

I like tinkering and trying new things so I say go for it. I dont think it will affect it negatively in any way so what can it hurt to try?

Just to be clear, I've stated that a black spinnerbait with black nickel blades will produce on a bluebird day after a cold front has passed through. That is the only time I've had success with that combination.
