Best uncommon senko colors?

Featured Replies

I know this is all very body of water specific, but what in your experience has been a good color? Just went to the sporting goods store today and looking at all the colors got me thinking.

I normally stick with what works for me, which is either GY 5” watermelon with black flake, or bubble gum. But what are some good different ones outside of the mainstays most of us use?

GY 6" Smoke Hologram!

It’s fairly popular here on BR but 956 is a funky one which works great as a sunfish imitator as well as a crayfish imitator. It’s uncommon in my area as it’s pretty hard to find in tackle stores.

I also don’t hear much about chartreuse stickbaits (#156, chartreuse blk flk).I’ve been throwing them a bit this year with decent results. Looks great in clear to stained water in low light or sunny conditions.

I have tried these and caught fish on all of them......

Black blue laminate with a chartreuse tip, Bluegrass, Goby, Perch, Smoke Shad, Smoke Black Hologram, and Watermelon Laminate.

My go to's......  black with blue flake and green pumpkin with black flake.

I like the black with blue flake for night fishing.

If you like that one at night, you should try bruised shin.  Also, there is one senko style bait that I tried years ago (can't remember who makes it, BPS? Yum?) that was black and blue swirled together.  This bait was killer in the early morning and at night.

Grey/silver powerbait. I don’t know the color name.

GP/watermelon red laminate - 955 - is called watermelon/lt watermelon, but in person looks like dark green or GP. rs.php?path=YAS-955-1.jpg

And my favorite sleeper color 956, especially when the spring texas craw bite is on.

Very nice, appreciate you including the description, number and photos!

Smoke Pearl Blue is my best producer. Watermelon with either black or red flake is #2.

Never bothered to learn the numbers except green pumpkin which is 297. Best color for me in clear water is natural shad which is smokish with very little small gold and black flake. I started pouring flukes in this color it works so well.

Not exact but close enough for my personal use.

Man! That #956 watermelon w/copper flake/orange w/red is getting a lot of love! It’s easily my best and most productive Senko color by far.

Green Pumpkin Magic!  No other needed

It’s funny that you say this, this was actually the color that inspired this post! Was looking at this color at the store but chickened out and stuck with the tried and true green watermelon with black flake. Bought two packages of that and one package of black with blue flake. That green pumpkin magic did intice me though. Very glittery.

Cream White

I see a lot of people throwing all sorts of white baits but rarely a white Senko.

I have thrown a LOT of different color offerings and even designed one.  A few years ago as pro staff, I was able to get “mistakes” in 100 count packages.  My favorite was always the 901 mistakes where the green and white laminate would bleed together and make swirls.  Not like a camo but a mixing of the colors in different shades.  I caught 3 Virginia citation award fish on those mistakes.  The pour process has been refined enough that now there are no mistakes although I do still get some prototype colors to try.

I can't imagine ever having better luck than I do on GP w/ black flake.  Nothing gets bit like they do for me.

I haven't strayed much from the popular colors but now that I see other people besides @BrianMDTX pumping up 956 I'll have to give her a go haha

I just bought my first pack of 901’s recently and caught my first bass with one last Saturday. No swirls though!

Caught around 50 bass a couple weekends ago on them!  Went through a whole bag!  haha  So had to go buy two more bags!

Tom Mann was once asked why so many colors to which he replied "Cause I got me a lot of fishermen to catch".
