I bet John Cox isn't nearly as worried about this as all the guys on the internet are.

  • I’m in agreement with disqualifying him but let’s not dismiss the fact that probably every Elite series guy was glued to MLF live each day.   Which leads me to wonder, assuming Cox did not g

The glaring issue to me is that the MLF and BASS schedules are too similar. No reason whatsoever the two should have events at the same fishery within a few weeks. That’s just lazy scheduling. Most fans I know are tired of seeing the same tournament over and over.

I don’t know this for a fact but I assume that both organizations are receiving incentives from local entities that want to promote fishing tourism.  The lakes that are willing to pay for the attention are the ones that get the tournaments.

You are right I’m sure. Nevertheless it is complacent and short sighted. I hope the discount received on the front end makes up for the loss of revenue on the back.

Same as smoking pot a month before the Olympics  ????

Another good reason you shouldn't try to fish two tours... When is enough enough? Does the guy have a family, or a life? Each tour is quite demanding, why not just focus on one and not try to run around like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to fish every tournament out there....

Way back when they didn't have so many 'big' tours... Now, there are quite a few tours out there and I don't think the intention was to have everybody fish em all.... I would assume a large majority of guys on the MLF BPT don't fish two tours. MLF BPT is demanding enough, especially if you're trying to beat Wheeler hahaha

I know some guys who work 2 jobs or work all the overtime they can just to make some extra money. I'm sorry, but time spent with my wife and kids means more to me than a few extra bucks. Not hating on John, but I see what you are saying.

He has also fished the FLW pro circuit this year earning $121,000 on that tour

He indeed has a family and they travel along with him to several events

I honestly think he did the multiple tour thing to get extra notoriety and it certainly has worked.  He's attracted a lot of attention this season.  His has been a big (if not the biggest) story in pro bass fishing this year.  He's lucky to have a wife and kids that will support that kind of lifestyle.  It's definitely not for me, that's for sure.

I'm not sure why this was even a question or how John would be upset or expect anything different.  This one seems pretty obvious, they had no choice but to DQ him...

He sure doesn’t seem to upset about it on social media, he posted yesterday that he’s still in line to fish the classic next year

Yeah I just meant like, what did he think was going to happen?  Did he expect BASS to give him an advantage over other anglers and let him fish?  It's baffling that this is even "questionable" in the least...

From my understanding, the part he is or was a bit upset about was he approached BASS when the schedule came out about the conflict and BASS said we will address it at a later time, because when the schedule was released things were still up in the air regarding COVID especially in New York. It was possible the site for this tournament would be moved outside of New York. It sounds like BASS kicked the can down the road and waited until the very last minute to make their decision.

I don’t believe Cox was looking or expecting special treatment, he was just looking for an answer.

I think the answer should have been, "Given the current schedules, you would have to skip one or the other tournament stop. If the venue changes, then we'll reconsider."

Given the rules, that should have been his assumption from the beginning - trying to dance around them is just bad ju-ju.

With Ito winning, Cox made the 2022 bassmaster classic

Wait...DQ'd from an event, and he still gets into next year's Classic?

That is all kinds of messed up...the DQ should have wiped his qualification for the Classic.

He still qualified points wise I guess. He was open with them about fishing the events before the season started and they didn’t tell him he would be disqualified so maybe they took some mercy on him because they weren’t clear from jump street

I dont see a thing wrong with Cox fishing in the classic .

He'll be alright no matter what he does. Just sad to see BASS stumble.

And notoriety equals sponsorships, which I'd guess brings in a lot more income than prize cash. $121,000 barely pays for a boat and truck to pull it.

He's in the Classic and that's a good thing. ?‍♀️

It's not on B.A.S.S. at all. Let me say up front that I'm a huge John Cox fan. That said, this is completely on John to know the different schedules and/or rules. He's the one that stumbled.

I used to race stock cars two to three nights a week. Two were NASCAR regional racing series tracks, one was not. After racing at the non-sanctioned on Friday night, I had to make changes to the car during the day Saturday, to race that night due to the different rules. Thankfully, if I raced on Sunday afternoon, it was another NASCAR track.

He knew the schedules and knew there was a conflict. It was still uncertain if they were going to fish NY due to COVID. He approached BASS about the conflict and they said they’d address it if they were going to be able to fish in NY.
