What do you 100% braid guys do when you get hung up in deep water?

Wood dowel . wrap line around and pull.

On a couple of my moving lure setups, I used to use straight 30 pound braid. Well then pike started slicing right through it. You wouldn’t think pike can bite through braided line, but they can. So I moved up to 40 pound braid. Last week another one cut me off. Now I use seaguar blue label fluorocarbon material. Haven’t been bit off yet using it but I imagine that it’s coming at some point. I may honestly have to start using a wire material which I really don’t want to.

Any of you guys specifically dropshotting with straight braid?

I have a small steel bar that I wrap it around.  It's the same steel bar that is attached to my plug knocker, so if I get hung up, I usually have that out anyway.

I don't go 100% braid all of the time.  I usually like to use a mono or fluoro leader for this reason, and to make the braid last longer.  But if I break off the leader, it gets too short, or I just get lazy, I'll go straight braid with just about anything.

Yeah, I've learned the hard way that pike do that.  I think I've had more bite offs with braid than the others.

It is common for people to only use braid when fishing with frogs and other soft plastic lures in areas with heavy aquatic vegetation.

Frogs for sure.  Texas rigs etc... a lot of people seem to prefer flouro but it probably depends on how thick we're talking.

Here's how I do it:

Frogs, Jigs, Texas rigs, topwater - 30 lb braid

Finesse (think ned rig, wacky, shakey head) - straight 15 lb braid or 15 lb braid to 8 lb fluoro leader

Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits - 12 to 15 lb fluoro

Crankbaits, jerkbaits - 10 lb fluoro

Right now I use straight Braid for Punching, some top water, buzz baits, spinnerbaits, A rigs, and chatter baits.

Mono for crankbaits, some top water, and floating jerk baits.

Floro for jigs, swimbaits, and T rigs.

Braid to leader at times for everything.

Ask the same question next week and I'm sure I will have changed my opinion.  Line is one aspect of fishing I always have very strong opinions about, but have been known to reverse my opinion often.  Both braid and florocarbon have made me a hypocrite more than once.

If there were only one type of line, I would choose mono, or copolymer.

Break out the wench cause my palomar knots don’t break?

What's the wench going to do? Bring you a couple of beers while you try to get unsnagged? ?

Yup… It will bring more cause I just drank all the beer I had trying to get unsnagged.?

Just yesterday I broke a leader off and quickly re tied with straight braid, 15# power pro.

The line is so limp it wraps the hook in a unique way, very annoying so put my readers on and tied on another Flouro leader.

I’ve always heard that you can’t tie straight braid to a reel, that you have to load it with mono first and then tie on the braid because it won’t fit into the groves. Either way I’m straight mono.

All my reels but one have braid directly on the reel.  I have straight mono on my crankbait reel (although I should have saved a little $$ and used braid as a backer).

Mono backer is cheaper than braid backer
