Never really fished one much so I bought a couple. Anybody really like these? Any mods I should do? Are the pre rapala ones better or is that hype?

Big fan here. I have two sizes, shad and chrome.

I've got a couple in my box. They're still as good as when they were first introduced. Caught a fast limit with one in a kayak tournament back in May this year.

I've got 4 or 5 and they catch fish. One has almost no paint left on it  but has mojo.

These are the gold standard in popper for me. Some of the bronzed hooks are prone to corrode- If you do replace hooks, keeping a dressed rear treble seems to work better I think...

Hook rash, bite marks, only makes these better!

Great river bait. I’m a fan.

Love 'em.  They've been my favorite popper for years.  Especially deadly for me at gravel pits in the bullfrog pattern.

killer bait for spots

You may have mixed up Original Wiggle Wart now made by Rapala with Chug Bug made by Storm or Mud Bug by Arbogast.

There were Chug Bugs made before Storm was owned by Rapala, just like with the Wiggle Wart. Similarly to the WW, they were made differently with different materials and can be more sought after.  They don't bring quite as much money as a WW in desirable colors, but some of the popular Chug Bug colors still go for decent money.

The one my son found this spring was a pre-rap and sounds noticeably different than the current Storm versions that I have.

Might be nice to land a hand full of old originals. But the ones now that can be had at TW or a BPS will work just fine. The EBay vintage one for $20 may or may not catch more fish. For the same $20 you can go buy 3 new ones.

I have one in frog color, not that the bass can see the back of it. My previous PB was caught on one. It was a July morning. I cast to a twig sticking up in about a foot of water and the fish just slurped the bait before it moved. I just didn't see it anymore so I set the hook and it was on. I think the hooks on it are pretty good, if a tad small. I just sharpened mine. I prefer the Chug Bug to a smaller popper because those are almost too light to accurately cast on most BC gear.

Saturday i fished 4 1/2 hours before catching a bass on the Chug Bug. And it was almost a double. two fish came out of the water getting after this bait.
