My Stratos 20SS extreme is going up for sale here real soon.  Probably next week.

Will you be starting the "what's the best time to sell " Thread . . . . ?

get the boat before you are married.

Or just don't get married.  Or have any kids which are money pits.

Should we go down that rabbit hole?

No need to go down the rabbit hole, this is like the 2nd or 3rd reference to the subject, you're leaving a nice popcorn trail as it is. :)

Used to be, boat prices had a lot to do with supply and demand, but that was back when there was competition between manufactures.  That competition is gone now.  Like most other products, large conglomerates have bought out the competition and what few there are, they can join forces, so they get to dictate their prices, back like the old monopolies had it, they just do a better job of making it look like they are not.  Cost of production is not driving the prices up, it's the increased profit margins that's driving prices up.

Saving money is cool, but if you wait two years to buy one, that's two years out of your life without a boat. Maybe that's okay, but the older I get the less okay that is for me.

And who knows, maybe some other disaster will come along (WWIII?) and make the wait for good prices even longer.

Good points.

I remember when they broke up Bell telephone. I was in Jr High I think. That was nothing compared to Amazon. You can buy your way out of anything in this country. We are seeing it daily in the news. Some people are ju$t above the law.

I'm curious if waiting worked out for anyone involved in this conversation? I'm looking into buying a Kayak or jon boat soon but wasn't looking a couple of years ago when this got posted.

I think there are some pretty obvious signs of correction with the boating market.

Some dealers can't sell inventory nearly as quick as they used to.  Just last year a new boat my friend was looking at dropped about $16 grand from March to September simply because they couldn't sell it.  There is more of that happening.

Mercury laid off a lot of workers.  Outboards aren't boats, but they are a big part of them.  If Mercury has to reduce costs (like workers), demand has dipped.

Take a look around on used boats and you'll see more available at lower costs.  Additionally, in order to sell boats, trying to do so at previously inflated costs is not working like it used to.  The buyer is gaining some traction again.

Just my observations

Unsettled markets during an election year is always problematic. Remember the total cost of buying a boat includes taxes, license fee’s and insurance that are all going up!

😂 Yeah this is 2024.....71k is entry level, a steal.

When you find a boat that you want and can't live without at a price you can afford.....it is the time to buy !!
