Minn Kota Customer Service ~ Top Notch !

Featured Replies

  • Super User

While checking over my rig recently, I discovered that there was a split in one of the Talon spikes about half way up.

Not exactly sure how or when that happened but I can guess.

I don't exactly baby my gear all the time.

Minn Kota covers the spike with a Life Time warranty.

Sent them an email yesterday (Sunday) containing pertinent product/contact info and explaining my deal.

I was pleasantly surprised by a most favorable response today.

I've include my own & Minn Kota's correspondence below

Thank You Lori !

Good Day,

I have a pair of 2016 12ft Talons, that I purchased new with my Lund 1875 Pro-V Bass Boat.

They have been Great and I can’t live without them.   They are model 1810412.

One has suffered a broken spike (actually split or splintered)

 Unit serial # Q078MK0XXX

I’m hoping to replace it before open water up here in northern Michigan.

I was about to order a replacement on line but noticed the note indicating a “Life Time Warranty” on the spike.

The original part number was 2372008 however it seems that has been replaced by part number 2882008.

 Hoping all that is correct.

Either way, how would I go about utilizing this warranty ?

Thank you in advance

Mr. Menderchuck

Hello Mr Menderchuck,
I'm sorry to hear of the broken spike on your Talon but I have processed an order for a new one to be sent to you.

You do not need to do anything else as far as the warranty, I have taken care of this for you.
Thank you for contacting Minn Kota,
Lori

ps - good luck with the Brown Bass

(OK - I added that part)

I was going to use Mr Hugh Janus

but thought better of it.

What I find sad is that we are all surprised by this level of customer service. It used to be that this type of service was the norm, not the exception. But....good for Minn Kota. (and you)

I believe @A-Jay left out the part that he sent them a video of his workout with the letter. ????

Thanks for the laugh

I've never had a problem with Johnson Outdoors customer service. Never had MK issues but had a few with the Birds. Top notch service.

I'll be the one to disagree here in a way.  I mean this person went above and beyond, especially without a picture to accompany the request.

Agreed ~

When I first purchased these units, I did 'Register' them with Minn Kota.

(on line thing)

Initially it was what I needed to do to realize a decent 'rebate' that was available at the time of purchase as well as satisfy the warranty requirement.

By including the unit serial number in my email, they could have recognized that.

Not sure if they did that or not.

Now I just have to figure out how to effect the repair . . .

Yeah I think the easier you make it the better. I'd also bet those spikes are the cheapest part of the system so for them they are like send it and we have a customer for life.

I have a warranty question right now on my kayak and not nearly the same experience as of yet...

The Talon replacement Spike came in the mail Yesterday.

Looking to effect repairs sometime next week.

Minn Kota was nice enough to attach a complete replacement 'kit'.

More importantly they included 'directions'.

I need those; especially the nice little pictures.

How do you think it broke to begin with?  Isn't the spike made of composite?

Seems like fiberglass, has 'fibers' running it's length.

I routinely use the Talons to hold position in some snotty weather.

Boat's always stern to the waves in that deal and it's a bit on the violent side.

As the rig rides up/down/over the waves and or swells,

the length of the Talon will also 'ride' in & out as needed.

Don't know for sure, but I'm betting at some point during one of these events,

with the Talons extended most all of their length,

the forces on that spike ended up being a little more than it could handle and this one split.
