Does anyone use some kind of cleaner/preserver on their tires like Armor All Extreme spray shine foam or tire shine? Does it help or hurt in the long run.

I use McGuires Mirror Glaze on mine.

Looks like a regular type of wax for exterior finishes. So it works on tires/rubber as well.

I use 303 protectant . . .

You use it on your boat trailer tires too?

Don't use anything with silicone on your tires.  It won't hurt them, per se.  But it will make it harder to clean off the brown gunk that's caused from tiring blooming.

Yep. It works on just about everything except glass.

Do shiny trailer tires make you a better fisherman?

I rinse mine off at boat ramps as often as possible and just let them air dry.

Duh! I’ve got axle grease all over mine which is why striper won’t eat my herring

Don't know. The last time the tires were shiny on my truck was the day I bought it.

Clearly someone with shiny trailer tires has no advantage on the lake when fishing. It’s about taking pride in equipment ownership and making it look better.  You already know that. The same concept applies with tires on a vehicle. I already knew that too.
 

I don’t personally shine the tires on my boat trailer but I use tire shine on my vehicles tires. I am borderline OCD when it comes to how my equipment, vehicles, and boat are maintained, which includes how they look.

Just different mentalities. I see a boat as a tool to catch fish rather than a toy. Like the Swamp People hunting alligators. When I had the Lund, I would wax it once at the beginning of the season and wash it during the summer algae blooms. The boat and trailer were maintained meticulously just not cleaned all the time.

 

The Lund was banged up and scratched when I sold it. I had plenty of "tire kickers" look at it. "It's a little more beat up than I was hoping." The guy who bought it saw past the scratches and dings for the quality of the brand. 

 

I'm as far from OCD as one can be when it comes to appearances(except with women)  I will pay a premium up front for quality and then drive it like I stole it. 

Thanks for all the suggestions & points of view. I keep the boat in My driveway. The intent is to try to prevent the tires from getting damaged by the UV rays & other harmful effects form the sun.

The RV crowd uses tire covers as those rigs sit for long periods of time. Usually something like canvas, easy on & off.  Much more 'protection' from the ? than any spray or tire dressing could hope to be.

 Roger that. Excellent tip A-Jay. Forgot about those tire covers. ?

Sun and the "expiration date" of the trailer tires are their biggest enemies.

 

When buying new tires, check the date!

 

I see a lot of bad tires on trailers that have less than a couple hundred miles on them.  ......and yes 303 is one of the few conditioners that do not harm tires

303 and BTS offer 100% sunscreen protection. But like sunscreen, you need to re-apply every now and then.

 

A-Jay's suggestion of tire covers is the best option.  Just be sure to move the trailer every 2-3 months to avoid flat-spotting the tires from sitting too long.
