I've always worn baseball caps of different styles for fishing.                                                 They shield much of your face, but leave ears and neck fully exposed. I picked up two military surplus boonie hats over the weekend. When you pull these hats down, they fully cover your ears, and shade your face much more than a standard ball cap.                              This hat, combined with a neck gator, and sun screen, should work out well for sun protection.                              It will be hot before we know it. Take precautions against sun exposure. You'll be glad you did.

I’m really liking a big straw hat now. Good airflow to keep my bald head cool and unburned. Also covers my neck and ears. 

Yes sir. I've been thinking about a bonnie. My nocturnal side emerges the hotter it gets. Hitting the 90's this week with 127% humidity here.

I hate the way those look, but they are very functional for sure. Ball caps do a good job of keeping the sun out of your eyes and forehead, but not much else. I find a boonie is too small to adequately cover your face and back of the neck at the same time, (and those chest plates are heavy). The straw hat is good, except in the wind, and buffs and neck gaters are a good option.

I use a boonie all summer and on my head it shades it all..

Forehead, ears and neck. 
 

Plus with the string it won’t fly off running.

Yeah, I feel and look like a goofball when I wear it, but it really keeps the sun off of my neck, even sun reflected off the water. That'll get you too.

The real deal brazil tarp hat. Surprisingly, they are very lightweight. 

After a few skin cancers, you will wear whatever it takes to cover up.

I may look kind of stupid with a $15 boonie hat that I found, but sunburn and skin problems later on are pain in the bum

I always wear boonie type hats when I'm hunting or in the kayak.

 

Camo for hunting, one with a neck protector flap when I'm in the kayak.

 

The spots that fishermen usually develop skin cancer: nose, ears, and the lateral area between the corner of the eyes and the hairline.

Light cotton scarf tied up around my head and neck. works great!
