I have both the Curado and SLX 71 MG and Curado 71HG, and have 30lb Power Pro braid spooled on each reel.

 

These are finesse baitcast reels, should I drop down to 20lb braid or am I good with 30lb braid for most applications?

I have 30lb PP super slick on both my 71's.  Works well for me.  Also, I think there's plenty of people pitching with that reel.  It's a low capacity spool but not particularly finesse.

I have fluorocarbon 12# on two of mine that I use for shaky.  I have 6# Yozuri hybrid on the other one for Ned rigs.

Sunline Diefer Armilo 11# SLX 70 MGL. 

 

Sunline Assassin 10# on my 71xg. I try to get away with as light as I can as that reel is for Ned rigs and I simply just like how the Sunline casts.

 

A very close second and much more reasonably priced is Seaguar Basix 101 in 10#. 

12# fluro on 70hg 

Its a multipurpose reel not just finesse. I have 2 cu70's and line ranges from 10#-60# braid and 10#-16# fc.

12lb Seaguar Tatsu. I have it on my Antares 70A. This will be it's third season on this reel. 

10 & 12 lb Seaguar Red Label FC 

I only have one that size, SLX MGL 71HG. Spooled up with 12lb Big Game currently.

12 pound Trilene XL.   SLX MGL 70.   (but that's on all my reels except 1)

I have a couple of each those models and use a variety of lines, from 10-15lb mono or flouro to 30lb braid.

 

In my opinion, the 30lb braid is more to keep it from digging in than needing that much tensile strength. I don't run any braid smaller than 30lb on my casting reels for exactly that reason.

Tried 20lb braid on my curado 70 mgl, it's doable but I felt it was too thin for my liking.

 

Currently exploring copolymer lines and liking yo zuri hybrid 10lb on my Daiwa Alphas SV TW and P-Line C21 12lb on my curado 70 MGL. 

There is fundamentally very little difference between 20lb and 30lb braid and I promise the reel doesn't care. Curado 70's are small reels but they aren't light line finesse reels with spools that require super thin line.
