First trip of the year produced

Featured Replies

Hit the upper James River this weekend and caught a few nice smallies. Got so dang excited about the biggest (my PB) that I didn't get a length. I don't know what I was thinking aside from also dealing with a kayak in pretty active current. Caught them on this older Bagley crank - anybody know what model it is?

Good luck! Are you going with the same strategy or are you planning something different?

Nicely done! That's a great handful of brown ones.

Mostly the same, just gonna get on the river earlier and spend more time fishing! Also will have a grub on another rod and throw that in some of the deeper holes.

more time fishing=more river smallies=one heck of a day hopefully!

May I suggest you hold the fish more vertically so you don't stress the fish's jaw so much?

Hahah. Such is life, you’ll get em again. Spring time is typically hard fishing for me too. My friend that normally can go to his favorite spot and catch big spring smallmouth, he went out Sunday and could only catch a catfish.
