What is your heavy jig rod?

Expride 7’ 3” XH doubles as my heavy jig and frog rod. Have it paired with a Met 20 HG and it’s great for both

You’ve got the budget for something custom: your pick of blank, seat, grip material / length / design, colors…   message me if you want to talk about it

I use an Tatula 7'6" or a Tatula 8' heavy rod. Usually 50 lbs braid to a 15" fluoro leader.

I have that 7'6 Tatula flipping stick too.

getting into that price bracket a custom could make a lot of sense.

if you decide off the rack, the Falcon Cara heavy cover jig is a nice rod.  7'4" and designed to drag football jigs through rock and brush piles.  I don't drag but I do pitch and was doing that with it last night.  Light tip to feel every little thing but it has plenty of backbone (I set the hook last night into the biggest tree I've caught so far in NJ!).    The Amistad is another nice jig rod (and is my heavy pitching in grass rod) but I'm not sure how it would be for casting jigs.  Its a great pitching rod though.

I rarely throw jigs of any weight, but for heavy bottom contact other than my punch outfit, I use a Dobyns 715 Kaden with 20# Shooter

First off, sorry for so many of these posts this year. I'm upgrading a few rods and appreciate the knowledge and experience here... I've really got into jig fishing this year. I bought a TFO Tactical Elite 736 and it just doesn't do it for me. Compared to the rest of my rods it's a pretty dead stick. I'm looking to throw up to 3/4oz plus a trailer so probably around 1oz total. Something that would go down to 3/8 plus a trailer would be a bonus. It would be nice if it could make a good pitching rod as well. But mostly it'll be a bottom dragging rod. Budget is up to around $350.

Save some cash. iRod704C rated 1/4oz-1 1/4oz. Beast of a jig rod. The tip on this rod is the most impressive of my rods and may be why it is capable of throwing such a wide range of weights

The weight of jig you throw on this rod does not seem to matter too much. I’ve gone up to 3/4, down to 1/4, and I wouldn’t hesitate to do 1oz either

Update: I was talking about the Genesis III series but it appears iRod also makes this model in their “Air” series. I can’t speak to the quality of those rods, but they are allegedly higher end and cost you $100 more

How’s the sensitivity? I know @WRB talks pretty highly about them too.

I have no complaints. You should be aware though that I have never fished with a rod over $200. To me, the rod is sensitive. I use mono on it. I feel connected to my bait at all times and know what it is doing and can feel the bottom well. Do I feel every bite? Nah, but I don’t think all jig bites are gonna be like that anyway

For a heavy rod for jigs I have a nrx + 844c and Megabass orochi perfect pitch.  I’d say the 844c is probably better at dragging jigs and the perfect pitch a tad more crisp if I’m stroking a jig. Reread your post and saw the price point. I’ve heard good things about 844 c in other models to get within that $

I'm also looking at a IMX-PRO 844c. But my ALX Zolo Deputy is so close to my IMX 853 that it's hard to spend the extra $. Which gets me back to the ALX rods...

I hate to keep beating the drum but I really do like the two I have. The sensitivity is close enough to my IMX that I honestly can’t feel a difference. Especially not $150 worth.

I looked a little deeper into those but I don’t think it would do anything my Toadface couldn’t.

Never tried a toad face.  Always wanted too.  Almost got my hands on one and the guy changed his mind last min.  Heard they’re great though!  ??

For almost all jig duty 1/4-3/4oz I use:

St. Croix Victory 7’3” HXF

Daiwa Tatula SV 7:1

30lb power pro

I throw anything on this rod in a pinch.

7'2" MH Expride

Kistler Helium HF, 7'1" $297 right now and you can get another 10% with the new customer signup.

The blank is much better than my poison adrena.

Just bought a St Croix Legend X to see what the 450 price point looks like, and I got it for 40% off. We'll see on that. But Kistler heliums are getting added  to the pile at a rate faster than any other brand.

IMO It's probably hard to buy a bad rod in the ~350 range. And it is a noticable upgrade from the 200-250 price point.

Or you can bite the bullet and try out one of the Trika rods with Titanium guides that's selling for $299. The guys that make it came out of the bow industry, and it is really tempting to give them a shot.

Those Trika rods are interesting. Haven’t heard much chatter about them yet though.

Same, I have several rods I’ll use a heavy jig on but I’ve been finding my 73 XH is quite versatile. Amazing frog rod but will also throw a lightly weighted six inch Texas rigged senko, power worm, speed worm and big jig on it. Fantastic rod that you’ll never wonder if you needed more power with. I actually wish they made it with a full cork handle.

Ive been using a Megabass orocchi brailest for a few years and really like it.

For my lighter jigs up to 1/2oz I use a 7' 2" H/F Poison Adrena and 2022 Zillion TW HD with 20lb Abrazx.

For jigs up to 1.5oz I'll go with my 7' 6" XH/F Poison Adrena and 2022 Zillion TW HD and 25lb Abrazx.
