A man's got to know his limitations. What are yours?

Me too. I don't fish nearly as much as did in the past. Fish now a couple of times a week using a lunar fishing calendar and looking for days with clouds, if possible, fishing about 3 hours sometimes a little longer. On foot. Short and sweet. Drive no longer than 45 minutes one way to some very scenic locations. Close to getting permission to fish a golf course pond under strict rules. Retired Senior Basser who knows his limitations.

@The Baron and @papajoe222, I feel less alone because of what you two wrote. I too am wiped after fishing ten hours yesterday.

And I'm still sore this morning and was wondering, "What's wrong with me?"

I was thinking something was wrong because I've been fishing since steadily since April and figured I was in fighting/fishing trim, but like you guys, I've been fishing four or five hours each time, not ten.

A man's got to know his limitations. A woman too.

Can't fish from anything other than a bass boat, spoiled.

i see you guys standing on your bass boats and I sigh. I would love to stand and fish, but there's no way I could back a bass boat into the bogs I fish and they're above my pay grade anyway. So, when I arrive at a pond, I'll fire a cast or two from the shore for the sheer joy of standing while casting.

Jigs, I hate them so I'm not good at using them, crank baits ehh, and huge baits not into them.  Everything else I know how to throw or use.  I spent a year practicing how to throw a bait caster, and I think it's like riding a bike, you never forget if it's burned into your brain but, I still don't like fishing with bait casters much.  I can do everything with a spinning reel a bait caster can do and more.

You and me both. I can cast a baitcaster and I sometimes do. When I'm trolling, I always reach for a baitcaster. Froggin' too. However, I still prefer my spinning rigs and am a little embarrassed that I do, since I understand the advantages of baitcasters.

Competing for 2 pounders on big public lakes. Just too much trouble.

Not too good at finesse. This comes back to doing what you like instead of what needs to be done. You know you should try the dropshot or shaky head, but you just don't want to.

Not into deep cranking for very long either.

Are you using spinning gear for it?

limitations , while walking the banks i limit myself to the amount of large rocks i climb over sometimes i don't bother at all (getting up there in age and balance is not what it use to be). topwater, frogs never really seem to catch anything on them.

what i'm good at is finesse fishing ,ned( about 80% of my fishinng) , and plastics in general.

Since going some rounds with cancer, I have had to abandon standing and go back to seated fishing. I’ve pretty much lost my ability to prowl the ponds/banks too - it’s pretty much boat or nothing now.

Strengths

I taught myself to bait cast with my new Shimano slx.  Within days I was fishing pretty comfortably with it.  That year I also began casting leftie. I love casting.  It's so relaxing and rewarding.

Gazing awestruck in the aisles at fisherman's heaven, aka Dick's.  It's... heavenly. Although also confusing, to be honest.

Weaknesses

I don't have any fishing buddies.  I'm not very social. I guess that's why I enjoy these forums!

I don't enjoy fishing for hours at a time.  And I don't like  cold, heat, bugs, boredom..., I'm a fair weather fisherman....I admit I get frustrated with no bites whatsoever.

Studying and learning all those crazy habits and tendencies of the bass.  Idk what is more mysterious... The lmb and trying to read his mind, or... Well, women.  They're equally unknowable.

Switching between spin casting and bait casting.  The different wrist action required is difficult to adjust quickly to.  Also, my baits tend to be very different, especially in weight, between the two types of casting .
