Husky jerk

Featured Replies

I somewhat impulsively bought a couple husky jerks. Then on the way home I wondered if there was really any reason to anymore. Other stuff like the rip stop which I love and many other newer suspending jerk baits are pretty much the same cost. Anybody still use these things? Is there any reason to buy them over the others?

They catch an awful lot of bass for me for the price, especially on smaller waters. Well worth the money IMO :thumbsup_blue:

I had a lot of success with husky jerk deep divers in size HJ14 for smallmouth. The glass perch color caught a lot of 5 & 6lbers on Erie. They would get down 18-20 feet on 10lb braid with 180-220 line out.

The Husky Jerk is a good bait and will catch fish. Something has to be said for a bait that has been around as long as it has. But it is always about what the person holding the rod is comfortable with. I have several that have had a lot of hookups.

Husky Jerk is a proven fish-catcher, and still good value for the price.

Besides, jerkbaits are all a little different in action, profile and bouyancy -- you want to have a variety of brands and models.

Thanks guys, do you fish these things any different than any other sus jerk baits? I been throwing a lot of rip stops lately. Some X Raps too but never do as good with them.

I've caught a good number of bass including some big ones with an 08 HJ in ponds. Have since moved on to Duo Realis Rozante 77's primarily for their castability.

I just get it down to depth and twitch it, I never do the crazy ripping with any jerkbait. Well I’ve tried it just never caught anything hHa

The X-rap needs a hard jerk when I fish with them. Husky Jerk needs a much lighter jerk to attract fish.

There are twitch and rip style Jerkbaits.

The husky is a twitcher and it catches the snot out of shallow fish.

I love all of rapalas Jerkbaits though!  The ripstop and x rap both work great but are more for ripping harder to get action.

I agree with most that especially this time of year my Jerkbait isn't doing a whole lot on the way in. Regardless  of variant.  I really like the twitch style in colder water. 😉

@Pat Brown pretty well summed it up. The only thing I would add is that the HJ deep diver catches the snot out of deep & suspended fish. Very slight twitches with longer pauses & short pulls works well in colder water.

Excellent bait. They don't have much hype these days, but I still catch tons LMB, SMB, and Pike on them every year. Lots of really nice fish too.

I know guys that fish these exclusively even though they have 10 tackle boxes of lures. I've caught some nice bass on them as well. Great river bait.

I fish both x-rap and husky jerk. I base my selection on fish mood and water temp. The x-rap produces in the summer when the bass are more active. The husky jerk is a cold water bait for me. The tighter action coupled with suspension is why i like it. I will say not all husky jerks suspend like the are supposed to. Even with a fluero leader. A small piece of suspen-dot will remedy this without affecting action though. This is my only complaint on them.

Husky Jerks remind me of Rogues.  Both have been around for a while and both catch bass.

I fish xraps and RIP stops in my river for big smallies.

I grab a husky jerk for deeper pools. But pike grab them too. Lost my favorite husky a few years ago to a pike. It happens.
