2023 Metanium 100’s x 5 for this guy 😎

Have you received these yet? Any thoughts?  I just pulled the trigger on one. I thought about the new Steez SV TW but at over $200 more than the Metanium 100, I just couldn't do it (at least not yet).

I recently got 2 Antares DC's, a regular Antares, and an Aldebaron bfs. Not sure on year models but they are the newest in those models. I would love to see a tiny Antares model made. I do want to get the smallest Metaniun from japan soon. Sorry, I am not good remembering models and such.

I have a Shimano Poison Ultima med. hvy rod ordered. It should be here this week. Got a st.croix legend elite last month. That thing is an amazing worm rod! So sexy and so sensitive, and very comfortable.

I did. Ordered from Digitaka Friday morning and they delivered to me Tuesday early afternoon. Amazingly fast delivery straight from Japan.

They palm perfectly for me. I was a big fan if the 16’ Metanium and used those for years. The 23’ Met is perfection. I had a USDM 20’ Met and didn’t like how narrow the spool was. This 23’ release is wider and just perfect.

I too, have been foaming over the new Steez but I just no, I’d get it, use it briefly, and go back to the Met.  I’ve got a well-trained thumb so the Mets are my workhorses.  I’ve tried Tatula Elites and the new Zillion and they just felt choked off even after loosening brakes. I’m pretty sure it would feel the same with the new Steez due to the braking system. The Shimano (centrifugal) braking system I prefer over magnetic systems because you can squeeze more out of them.

I'm considering ordering a Scorpion DC, a 150 size reel, from DigiTACA but they are out. I also considered the 22 SLX DC XT 71. It's a little too small though. It is in stock though. Oddly enough the reals are the same price at $207. They carry a 22 CURADO DC 201HG currently at $197. I believe the first two reels have I-DC5 brakes and the Curado I-DC4. Does anybody know which brakes are better?

The Reel Test did a cast contest between Scorpion and the Corrado. Surprisingly the corrado won.

Good fishing,

Jim

what’s the reel for?  I’d get the slx dc xt.  I have one and it’s an amazing reel.  It’s used as equally as much as I use my ‘21 Zillion SV reels.  Great little reel.

Well I want to throw top water baits like poppers, walkers, and buzz baits.  So I'm looking for the 6.2:1 reel.

I bank fish so I'm not going to be throwing things very far I guess.  Nonetheless I'd rather have a 150 size reel. I've got an old 6 ft falcon rod FC-6-16 MH (fast I think) that I'll put it on. (I don't know the jargon for this stuff.)

Ahh ok.   I’ve used it for those lures and it works great.  Line was never and issue.  Now I use it for chatterbaits.  16lbs fluorocarbon and it holds more than enough

Just curious why you would want the 6spd for poppers, walking baits, and buzzbaits?

I typically prefer faster speed reels for those methods. A faster ratio lets you pick up slack quickly, or recover your cast quickly and get the next cast back out there. A faster reel also helps get the buzzbait up on top and keep it there without having to reel as fast.

I know 6spd's used to be considered fast and we used them for all these methods in the past.

I was just curious of your thoughts.

@FrnkNsteen I've discovered I fish walking baits best with moderate retrieve (just by keeping score), though a moderate IM6 rod is more important - that's going to be a very personal technique thing.

@FrnkNsteen I want a slow retrieve reel for those topwater baits and crankbaits. I've discovered that I can't slow my retrieve down all the time so using a slow retrieve reel is my best bet.

@Greenback Hunter you can get the same lure presentation finesse in a high-geared reel by adding a longer handle.  Simply, you're moving your hand farther to complete a rotation.

I'm with Greenback Hunter on this one. Almost all my moving bait reels are 6.3.1 because when I lose complete focus I tend to speed up my retrieve. With the 7.9+ speed reels I would occasionally blow out the lure. I'm far more comfortable speeding up my retrieve when needed than I am attempting to reel slowly for the duration of a long retrieve. With the faster reels I'm one big splash or curious squirrel away from turning a spinner bait into a top water lure.

^^Agreed^^

For slower moving baits like whopper ploppers, crankbaits, even spinnerbaits,..... I also like a slower 5 or 6spd reel. I have a hard time slowing myself down too and have the same issues.

I was thinking more of baits like poppers, and walking baits where movement is imparted by the rod and the reel is just picking up slack. I typically use higher speed reels on those, but good points by all.

I have two of the new 24 Certate FC2500LT reels. Love them. Great drag and lighter than the old ones.

What are first impressions? Do you have the 2020 metanium to compare?

I have not use it yet, but it looks pretty good and a little bit lighter than the 20 & 23 Metanium which I both owned, Handle side spool bearing is moved above the X-ship bearing right next to the tension cap, not sure it matters, just FYI.

Paint job looks good but it's too glossy for me, it'll get scratched easy.

I got my 24 Met 100HG in yesterday from JLS. Unboxed it and it had a Jackal TN60 as a free gift. The reel looks great, feels great and spins very smoothly. Small reel should be very easy to palm. I may change out the handle for a slightly longer one.  I'll spool it up tonight and try to decide which rod to mount it on. If it's anything like it's 20 and 23 brethren I'll be very happy camper.  I'm looking forward to giving it a spin this weekend.
