Fluke question

Featured Replies

I’m going to try Fishing flukes more this year. Do you run a swivel above the hook to prevent line twist or is that a myth? I’mtrying to avoid swivels. I do not like them.

I just run straight 25 lb 4 carrier braid to a screw lock 4/0 hook and skip all the fanfare.  Works great.

I into use a swivel if I’m fishing two flukes on a donkey rig.

Only two rigs off the top of my head where I use swivels...spoons, and Carolina rig.....and now that I think about it, I probably don't need one on a Carolina rig

I use a weighted swimbait hook, which keeps the bait from spinning and twisting the line. So, no swivel for me. Ps. I also seem to catch more fish wish a slightly faster fall.

I always use a swivel. When I throw a Super Fluke it is on a spinning rod. It does help with line twist.

Not that I think I’m right but I never use a swivel.  BUT….I only throw Yamamoto DShads which are heavier.  I use a gamakatsu 4.0 ewg hook and I am meticulous about rigging.  I rig it to jerk left, jerk right, jerk up, jerk down or jerk horizontal/level.  I’m not going to say I don’t get any line twist, but it’s minimal.  I will feed out line with no lure about every third trip to remove any twist or if I’m bored, I’ll open the spool and pull the line out into my yard and rewind.

Gamakatsu has a hook with an embedded swivel now.

Might be a little narrow for a fluke unless it has an open belly.

I do not run a swivel and I don't notice any line twist. I rarely abort a cast though. I fish it back to where I'm at. I run a Super Fluke most of the time.

No swivel from the 3" Bass Assassin Baby Shad to the 7" Magnum Fluke on FC and Mono on baitcasting gear.

No swivel here.

I'd never used a swivel until this year.  I tried it a few times and like the slight increase in weight as well as not worrying about line twist.
