At the river spot I frequent, there is a guy that lives up the road that comes down. He tries to get me to give him fish. Others do, but I don’t. I know if I give him any, like a legal but small bass, then he’d want it if I caught a 5lber.

 

im not opposed to keeping some to eat that’s for sure. But those that keep everything they catch, I don’t know why but I don’t care for it. 

I will give some of my catch away. They are usually nice eating fish I'd want to keep for myself, but didn't catch enough for a meal or if I feel like they need it more than me. I'm eating a couple perch fillets today because no one at the launch wanted them. I thought I was on them and would get a limit, but it wasn't the case. Milk, egg wash, penko, and hot oil it is. 

@J Francho, that sounds good.  I got on an accidental perch bite Saturday; a couple in 13-14 inch range. Was in my Hobie wishing I had a stringer and cooler.  

 

The folks who can't comprehend how anyone can enjoy fishing are the most incredulous when I tell them I throw 'em back... like 'Why are you even out there, then?'

I’ve been known to dabble in some 15”+ jumbo perch, don’t even have to walk on ice 

 

 

got an even bigger one somewhere along the way pushing 3 lbs but it was back in the flip phone days and the picture was lost in translation 

I would gnaw my own arm off before I ate a bass.

Seems like that was beaten multiple times recently but I don’t keep up with those too closely. I might have eaten a record 😂 

I tossed the NY state record google eye back and immediately regretted it. Later that year, a kid caught it from the same dock and currently holds the record. I'm okay with that.

Yeah, I know we committed a sin (but not a crime), but on one lake, we couldn't catch anything but muskies. We eventually chose hunger because we forced ourselves to eat an entire 40" fish and no matter how tasty, forcing that much musky down your throat kills your appetite as surely as we killed a couple muskies. The following times we visited that lake, we always took enough food to not need a musky meal.

You have every right to eat whatever fish you wish, as long as you're doing it legally. I definitely don't hold it against anybody for exercising their rights.

Harvesting a 40 inch muskie isn’t even legal here. Minimum size to keep is 54 inches for a pure strain. You’d be hard pressed to even catch one that big too which is a real trophy.

I believe ours is similar, depending on the lake/area. 

I certainly don't begrudge anyone for eating the fish they catch if they have the need/desire.

 

How does musky taste?

 

 

We had baked Musky at Red Deer Lodge Canada with my in-laws and it was good mild tasting fish. Keep in mind the cook was very skilled. The Musky was whole stuffed and baked then served sliced along the back family style.
