Do you keep baits in the clamshell packaging?

Featured Replies

Pretty much like it says. So you? They take up a ton of pack room in my bank bag. So I was considering not using them.

Yeah if they come in a clam shell, that’s where they stay for me. Keeps them straight. I hate dunking plastics in hot water to straighten em out so I keep em in their package.

some yes, some no.  Keitechs are maybe the worst so I only load as many as I need into a 3700 with my general plastics.  Rage bugs and similar I leave in the clamshells because they don't take up that much room.  If the plastic is of a design that kinking would cause problems (like running a spinnerbait true) then its either 3700 or clamshell.  Jig trailers not so much.

no.  not anymore.

I went to Mexico and I dumped them all into Ziplock bags to save luggage space.   I still have some leftover I am using.  it's been months.  I even started mixing some colors.   from practice, I know it is okay.  these are Japan soft plastics, so not inexpensive ones.    I also will take say a bag of Senkos and put two packs into one.

Yes and no. For something like keitechs I  because they are soft and kink easily. They then don't work right if the tail is bent.

I bought a bunch of 13 fishing craws on discount and the clamshells are enormous. I took them out as I don't think the claws would get super bent out of shape.

No.. I put them in 3700s..n restock as needed... Easier to transport this way for me..

Yes, I only take the plastics with me that I plan on using. I take one of the small zippered  storage bags per trip, hold maybe 10-15 types.

Yes, if they come in a clam shell, they stay in a clam shell. I've thrown away too many baits that got deformed by just not sitting in the clam shell perfectly. Elaztech is the worst for this in my experience. I've thrown away so many SMH worms because the tail slipped out of the slot and ended up permanently kinked.

I have Keitechs in a bag must be going on 4 seasons straight and they are still ok.

I love when baits come in a clamshell so they don’t get bent. I leave them in.

Thanks everyone! I’m just trying hard to simplify what I carry on the bank. And make it easier. I don’t wana bring the kitchen sink. I wana focus on catching fish. Not dealing with tons of tackle. That’s for at home when I’m not fishing lol

Fishing from the bank is a different animal than a boat. On the boat I keep them in the clamshell but if I were fishing from the bank I would be getting rid any excess bulk I could think of.

That’s pretty dang much where I am at lol

I do. Keeping soft plastics in their original packaging allows for one less tackle craziness that I have to worry about.

I sleep very well at night knowing that I don’t ever have to take baits out of their clamshells and I don’t ever have to fish a ned rig.

So peaceful

Unfortunately, I keep most of my soft plastics stuck on stumps in the bottom of the lake.

Yes keeps em straight

I pretty much keep them in the original packaging. Sometimes I'll use a ziplock bag if I need to condense the packaging.

As long as the baits aren't standing on end they will be fine. Laying on their side is just fine. I have keitechs 2+ years old in a waterproof box and no kinks.
