Bladed jigs are a thing of the past.

Featured Replies

For me at least. The Battlebaits, Brigade blade is such an awesome little hybrid spinner/bladed jig. I absolutely LOVE fishing this thing. It so fun I don't even mind when I don't catch a fish. I just like to watch it come through the water. The only problem is that Mr. Battlebaits is pretty much a one man show and getting these much less anything else from him these days is like finding hen's teeth due to his recent popularity I assume. Lets hear about your more obscure lures that absolutely catch fish for you but may not be the most popular or mainstream.

How well does that come through vegetation?

Exactly like a spinner bait does. It handles alot more like a spinnerbait than a bladed jig if you ask me.

Does the blade interfere with hooksets?

It looks like it would get stuck it there mouth or pop the mouth open.

Interesting design. I’d like to try one.

Not that I can tell. I haven't had any issue with the blade blowing the lure out of the mouth on hookset. You could add a trailer hook if that became an issue but like I said I haven't seen it.

I've been fishing the Bottom Up Beeble for a while.  Same/veeeeery similar design.  The middle/joiner blade does catch weeds/filamentous algae a fair amount.  Great change of pace bait but definitely not a bladed jig replacement.  Especially with all the tweaked designs coming over from Japan now that the patent has expired.

I’ll go with a standard spinnerbait as my answer here. And here’s why.

Certainly they aren’t new. But in recent years I think a lot of anglers have abandoned it for a bladed jig instead. I know a couple personally that almost exclusively reach for the bladed jig now, whereas in the past it would have been a spinnerbait.

Some pressured waters have seen too many bladed jigs and a spinnerbait looks/sounds different, enticing aggressive reactive bites.

My tackle box has both, and I use both.

I love a bladed jig, but that looks mighty interesting. My number one issue is bladed jigs love getting hung up in wood. Does that come through wood more like a spinner?

Yes it acts alot like a spinnerbait.

I’ve never been a huge fan of the bladed jig. Yes I’ve caught fish on them, but I prefer either a swim jig or a spinner bait

I fish a lot of both and might have to try that one out. Might give me an edge at a couple of the more pressured ponds I fish.

I went to the website and didn't see the lure weights?

I saw a video of that bait online somewhere and the action intrigued me so I had to make my own. It's pretty unique but not a complete bladed jig replacement IMO. The vibration isn't as hard and it can't be fished nearly as slowly as a bladed jig. Not really any way to effectively lift and drop the bait off the bottom either. It's basically a pretty straight retrieve type bait.

Would you mind posting a better picture? I’m trying to wrap my head around exactly how it works. Is the front blade connected in 2 places?

It is, the blade is somewhat diamond shaped and connected right in front of the head and again towards the end of the wire.

Pretty much a copy of a Beeble/ChiBeeble

Here's what they look like underwater

Whether they work or not, the guy makes some clean looking baits.  I'd be interested in trying one, but it would have to seriously impress me to invest @$14 per.

Ah ok, that’s what I thought, but wasn’t quite sure. Thank you!

For those that are balking at the price of these or the Grass Piece, check out these. Have ordered several and they are quality. I especially like the gold one with the holographic strands. Pictures don't do it justice.

I can stomach the price..but the availability is hard to swallow.

I dig the grass piece.  the Mexican bass snapped one off and I was cussing in Spanish quickly.  :D

Those look great and the price is right.  How is the action?  Do the bass bite them?  What weight do you like?

I want to see a video of how this runs in the water. When I tried regular bladed jig blades like this they didn't work. Had to get some custom blades made that run great.
