Double frog rig

Featured Replies

Love froggin'!  I've added rattles, bb's, etc.  I catch just as many with a frog out of the package so don't see an advantage with the mods.  It's fun to play with so I rigged up a double frog rig in hopes that it would increase the presence on a thick mat.  I've caught a bunch of fish with it and always hoped it would produce a double!  Yesterday I got my wish!

You're a Madman !

Bet that first bass you hooked was very happy to endure the second hookset.

Congrats

@A-Jay It was a double whopper as they cracked those frogs at the same time!  Blew duckweed for a mile!

Which Bucoo are you throwing those on?  Amistad?

I am just Agog! Nothing like the heartland for innovation and the perseverance to pull it off!

Wow! I never seen or heard of anything like that. Congratulations on the double, that's wild man!

@casts_by_fly  It's a 6-10, Heavy action, Fast flex.  40# 832 braid.  I would use a longer rod but I fish in a small boat, setting down.

Got it.  That's the head turner/pitching stick model.  I have that one here.

If you had only shown me the picture of the setup, I would say you were crazy and I would think the wire coming off the back of the first frog would impede hookups unless the fish got it from the side.

Having seen your results (nice double!), I may still think you are crazy.....

Now you got the Bait Monkey going through all of my tackle, trying to invent new rigs. First thing he did was add another frog.  If two work, why not three?  After stopping at the maximum of a 5 frog combo, he started to draw up plans for two crankbaits, to spinnerbaits, two spooks, two jerk baits, double musky Jitterbugs for night,  even two A rigs.  If that weren't enough he really went crazy with combinations that only a mad man would think of. Spinnerbait bladed jig, Frog plastic worm, hard jerk bait soft jerk bait, crankbait lipless crankbait,  and his favorite idea, a Huddleston soft swimbait with a Roman Mother glide bait.

I reminded him what happened when my wife found out he was trying to buy more rods and reels.  If he is going to try and invent new lure combinations, they have to weigh in under an oz so I can throw them on the gear I already have, and the lures have to be ones I already own.  Even with these restrictions he is going to be a busy Monkey for a few days.

I had the same concerns about the wire also.  Experience is that the majority of frog bites are that the bass engulfs the frog from the rear.  I've fished this rig for a couple of weeks and caught many bass (singles) and most have been on the rear frog (not all).  I have missed bites on it but miss some bites no matter what frog I'm using.  Also, I have not seen any increase in bites with the double rig.  I had hoped the double rig would give more of a presence or commotion on a thick mat.

The first rig I made using braid to connect the frogs but too many tangles on the cast.  No tangles with the wire.

Will it produce another double?  Maybe.  But I'll take 'em one at a time!

Yesterday on the double rig.

I think you've been beaten to the punch on some of those.

Bladed jig spinnerbait

PF Side Piece – Pulse Fish

Frog spinnerbait

SPRO Bronzeye Blade Frog 65

I like your thinking though. I think I need to make up a sabiki rig worth of small jerkbaits. Drop them on a 1/2 oz dropshot weight to cover the water column.

I created (on paper) the double Arbogast rig.. it’s a buzzplug in front(hook would be ideal to wire on a follower)to a jitterbug… I’ll be back with results once I try it.

I think you completed fishing with the double frog rig. Absolutely wild.

@TheSwearingAngler  I used wire from the hardware store.  It is stiff enough to not tangle on the cast.  I think after being kinked up a few times it will break.  On the next one I build will use those wire leaders that people use to prevent bite off's from pike.

Please let me know what you come up with and results.

Got some good ones yesterday on the double frog rig.  I call this rig "Harry 'n Charlie" after @Bazoo posted about old time Bassmaster.  I wish I had a Harry 'n Charlie hat!

The front frog is Harry and the rear frog is Charlie.  Kinda like the stories, Harry stirs up trouble and Charlie takes a beatin for it!  Most of the bites are on Charlie.

Same style frog front and back?

If not...was there a thought process for the frog in front style vs. back style?

Cool rig.
