Tube Colors

Featured Replies

I've never used a tube before. I saw the post about hooks and thought I would piggyback on that and ask about colors. What is everyone's preferred color of tube? I realize that is subjective based on water color, time of year, etc... Let's say for Tennessee River green water in the fall what would be the preferred color?

I use natural colors for tubes, both largemouth and smallmouth.

Green pumpkin, root beer, watermelon, etc.

Depending on location but my primary would be green pumpkin.

I make them and have experimented with lots of colors and combinations.  The ones I can count on are green pumpkin with black and purple flake, pumpkin seed with black flake, and black with red flake.

Ive had good luck with dark brown in the clear ozark lakes for all three speices of bass. I use the same color in the dingy lowland waters up north. I just bought some 4 inch tubes in june bug and watermelon red flake for pitching in brush because those are proven worm colors.

Fall, bass chasing shad I use a Texas-rigged 4” white ( or translucent with black pepper flake). My other choice is coffee color or green pumpkin. Pretty much the extent of my tube selections that I carry.

The white is a killer imitation that can be swam, dragged or yo-yo’d. I seldom use jig heads (only Stupid Tube) but take Bill’s Lowen’s method on Tube fishing.

Green pumpkin with red/green flake is my favorite. You don’t really need an extensive selection of colors for tubes; naturals with a few white/pearls and maybe a black/blue flake for good measure

I visit friends in Alabama pretty much every fall that includes trips to Pickwick Lake and Wilson Lake.  Green Pumpkin Orange is the color to not leave home without.

I only carry 4 colors of flipping tubes.

Pickwick is where I do most of my fishing.

I’m from Alabama, lived in Florence for 5 years during late 70s, early 80s and fished Pickwick to Wheeler almost weekly.  While I very much enjoy seeing old friends when I visit, the river is the main reason for my yearly trips.

Yeah, I'm learning how to fish the river. But, I've fallen in love with it. Pickwick is a special place to me. I live about 40 minutes away, in Tennessee.

I know what you mean.  I grew up learning to fish on all the Alabama lakes on the Tennessee River with my father and a few of his friends.   It was, is and always will be a very special place.

Most of the time I'm fishing with green pumpkin.

I only carry tubes in 2 colors - Bluegill and White.
