Newly found love affair with fishing!

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. My name is Dana. I live in Clearlake CA. I have recently rediscovered my love for bass fishing. My 7 year son and 11 year nephew kept asking me to take them fishing. Man, am I glad they did!

Started out just snagging some bluegill for fun. Then nephew landed his first bass on a nightcrawler. The momentum had begun. After I snagged my my first bass on a lure in about 15 years, I was hooked!

Now I have been researching, listening to videos. Just bought my first baitcast reel and pole. Even snagged my PB over then weekend, throwing a jig and craw trailer while catfish baitfishing on the side.

Anyways just wanted to introduce myself. This forums has been of great value to me and help me determine my first baitcast rod (dobyns maverick 734c) and reel  (slx xt a) Still in the mail.

We currently bank fishing, but am getting our paddleboard set up to venture off to broader horizons and much juicer fishing spots we can't access from shore which is quite limited. Might even get a boat in the future 😁

Howdy and welcome.

Don't overlook the small plastic boats like the pond prowler, if you aren't already aware of them.

Welcome to BR. You might want to substitute the word snagging with hooked.

Welcome aboard.. Good intro.

Welcome! So glad you've connected with fishing! It sounds like you're off to a great start.

Congratulations on discovering bass fishing!  You'll learn a tremendous amount on these forums.  I'm sorry that you're about to meet the bait monkey.  Maybe start looking for a second job tomorrow.  Or tonight.

Welcome to BR.

There is a lot to loathe about the internet sometimes, but places like this are where it shines. In the past, you might read an article in an outdoor magazine about a new lure, buy it and have no clue how to fish it. Now? You have millions of man-hours of angling experience right at your fingertips that can offer advice immediately. You will learn a lot here.

You live near one of the a top bass lakes the country! Consider a kayak in lieu of a paddle board, ClearLake can get windy. Suggest trying 6” #925 Senko weedless wacky rigged, size 1 Owner Jungle wacky hook.

@WRB-2.0 is Tom and he's a legend, so do everything he suggests.

Welcome aboard. When I lived in San Jose I would go up to clear lake. Stellar bass fishery. Enjoy the ride
