Who made this Lipless?

Featured Replies

I found this on the ground, it was solid white when I found it. It has a unique texture, and is very close in size and shape of a 1/2oz Rat-L-Trap. I replaced the hooks.

Anyone recognize it?

It is not a Cotton Cordell Super Spot. A SS has a contour to the body, and the lip is rounded at the terminus. This lure is flat sided and the lip is nearly square at the terminus, very similar to a Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap.

Strike King Diamond Shad?

It doesn't appear to be a diamond shad. The pictures I see of it show a full diamond texture on the sides. This one only has a half texture from the lateral line up, and the diamonds are small.

Doesn’t matter. Repaint and use!! 😏

Probably a store brand knockoff of one of the main branded ones.  Which stores do you have locally?  Academy (H20 brand), Bass pro (BPS series), and all the other big stores had their own.

There is an Academy in town, and a BPS and a Cabelas about 60 Miles north.

It doesn't matter, but I enjoy solving the mystery.

My favorite lipless for years was a Diamond Shad. I have two left that I'll occasionally break out. That bait isn't a Diamond Shad, but I like the looks of it.

Someone used a purple Sharpe to add color, Spot lipless. Change those old Mustad hooks.

I have looked and looked just out of curiosity.  I think its just a cheap Temu knockoff that someone colored.  That said...It will still catch fish.

I feel like that mold was a popular mold back in the day:

A blank I got from Janns Netcraft

Just add hooks and catch fish :)

I added the color. I stated that it was solid white when I found it. Those are cheap VMC hooks I added.

This is not a Cotton Cordell Super Spot. I am familiar with the spot since I fish them. They have a more rounded nose, this one is more square on the nose. Spots don't have texture on the sides, and spots are not flat sided. Spots have a contoured side, whereas this one is flat on the sides.

I scoured ebay a while and I found this, which appears to be the same model. There was no information in the listing. Perhaps someone will recognise this color pattern? The eye isn't the same, but everything else appears to be the same.

I have very long topic on that 😊, Try to find it and I had same question, I have couple of them and I use them anytime I can’t catch fish with anything else, Somehow if there is a bass this lure will catch it.

Have you contacted the seller to see if they might have more information about it?

I agree with others that it looks like a knock off from Aliexpress or Temu. As long as it runs true and you put good hardware on it, should be good to go.

@Aaron_H I did contact them, and they said they tried to find the maker also and could not.

@Bazoo,

I think it is a Cabela's Rip-N-Shad from the early 2000's.  See photo from 2005 catalog.

@BASS302 I think you've figured it out. My bait is not identical to the picture, as the lip is more square in the front, but everything else is the same. The slight difference would be from having different manufacturers over the course of the life of the product and is certainly understandable.
