What’s your favorite Carolina rig swivel and size ?

Featured Replies

I’m planning on going on the small size. Largemouth, Florida to Ontario. Fishing 3 ft in Florida to 18 in Ontario.

Any other items like clacker, beads, stoppers would be great! What do you guys love?

Wow, that is attention to detail right there 😂. I don't use a typical C-rig often, but I've been using the Petey Rig quite a bit lately and it's been a good producer for me this winter. I just use whatever basic barrel swivel I have laying around that isn't too huge. When I'm fishing an actual C-rig, I like to add a glass bead and brass clacker above the swivel to make a little extra noise. Not sure what brand any of it is, probably from Bullet Weights or Eagle Claw.

I use a spro power swivel, forget exactly what size. You can get tiny ones that are still ridiculously strong, don't get the size 10s for normal Carolina rigging. I'd probably get like a 6 or 5. 4 or 2 would be more for serious heavy duty rigs like 1 1/2oz to a 5/0 hook and 12" worm. Usually if I'm C-rigging it's like a 3/4oz weight with a 10" power worm or lizard. I usually go about 3ft on the leader. I've tried those "Carolina Keeper" stoppers that let you feed the line through it and avoid a knot and swivel but in my experience they always end up sliding unless you use 2 or 3. Not worth it IMO. I don't fish a true C-rig often but I do like a bead, I think the ones I have are the Black Kalin's on TW they're 8mm beads. One tip I have that I also use for T-Rigs is to put a bobber stop against your swivel knot. I just like having it there so the weight/bead isn't slamming into your knot when you set the hook.

I never paid attention and only bc it's been quite a while since I used the rig but swivels sizes are rated by its strength, I would guess anywhere from size #12 - #5 would get you there. Just spit ball'n of course.

I love @MassYak85 's post ... great info there

I use a #7 swivel, I also have some of the premade rigs in different weights.

This is the way I would go. Pick a small swivel that meets the strength rating you’re comfortable with and fish it.

The beads and what-not are good for dirty water otherwise keep the rig a clean as possible. The less bling the less snot you pick up while dragging it.

And leave the sleeping pills at home, that rig will more than help you fall asleep … haha … good luck

I dont remember the size but its pretty big. About 1" long. This year I'm going to test out some of the Owner Hyper Swivels that are really small. I typically use a tungsten 1/2 weight and a force bead with mine. 18" leader roughly.

I'm adding an addendum.

Spro 8 or 10 sized swivel

Phenix Finesse or Rock Crawler weights

Ryugi Beats weights are awesome too but $$$$$$. None of those 3 weights snag much if used in the right conditions.

I keep two rods rigged Carolina. I rarely use a swivel. 15lb P-line Fluroclear and a Carolina Keeper. 2 keepers above 1/2 oz weight. Two less knots and ability to change leader length. The Carolina rig has been my go too for over forty years and the Carolina Keeper catches just as many fish as rigged with a swivel. I will use a swivel during the fall on super clear water when I drop to a 10 lb leader.

Not sure what size they are but about 1"? Bought a large pack of them years ago cheap. For weight I like a 3/4oz sinker most of the time.
