depends on the boat a little and what space you have to work with. The Ego extending net is nice. My dad uses it in his smaller aluminum bass boat. His is the S2 slider with the rubber bag (I forget the hoop size). He is less mobile for bending over and jumping around the boat so the longer handle (when extended) let's him stand on the front deck and net fish alone.

I'm stilling using my folding yakattack leverage net from when I had the kayak and I like it still. Extra large hoop (20" square roughly) and the offset arm brace is nice. But I can drop to my knees on the back deck to net them (or hop into the driver's seat). It's maybe a little more specialized than needed for a boat, but I had it and it still works well.

Either way, the rubber net bag is a must for me.

Thanks..I'm fishing from a ranger bassboat 19ft so I got plenty of room..was not using a landing net but decided to get one...but was not sure the right lenght....

This is a good topic because I broke my net. 🥴Anyway I’m in the market for a new one so good topic and good timing.

Net length depends on the boat, where on the boat you land your fish from, agility, and length of your reach. Be sure the net floats, has rubber or silicone mesh, and won't scratch the side of your boat.

I have an EGO S2 extendable handle and S1 Genesis net so I have variable sizes as needed.

My handle is 29"-60". This is their "medium" offering. I also bank fish in some precarious areas, so I needed the length. I also use a RIB as my fishing boat, so I (and wife) also need a bit of length to get over the 19" tubes. That being said, we were fine with the stock 13" handle for a couple years...but there's no doubt for my aging back and my wife's small stature that the extra length helps and is more comfortable.

If you needed adjustable, their smallest version, 18"-36" might be perfect for you. Not needed? They have many fixed lengths to suit your needs.

Oh...and I also use the adjustable handle around the house. Washing the boat, car, windows, etc. EGO also makes a gazillion attachments for it so you can use it for much more.

After losing a musky and sturgeon that were too big to land, I bought a big net.Havent hooked a big fish since. I have used it on a couple of five lb bass. Its overkill for bass but I'm prepared.

I have a nice Promar that extends a little bit, but recently decided to try a KastKing Brutus Foldable Extendable with the silicone bag. I only have one trip with it, but so far we really like it. Got a crazy good deal on it, but so far I think it's a good deal even at full p[rice. I noticed it is currently sold out and I have no idea when it will be back in stock.

My aluminum boat came with an old aluminum net. I don’t have the net I had for my kayak anymore. It was nice though. If I ever catch a fish out of the boat I’ll use the old crappy aluminum one and upgrade later lol. That said I’d definitely get one with a rubber net. They are so much nicer

I use the Frabill Conservation series as my bass/walleye net. They make a variety to choose from.

For muskie fishing, I used a dedicated specific muskie net made by Beckman. They are overly large and have a very deep bag so the fish can stay in the water while you unhook it.

If you fish alone, keep in mind that the ones with the rubber netting weigh significantly more and operating it with one hand can be problematic.

Frabil rubber mesh is money. I have two of them; one for the yak and one for the boat. Been using it for 7 years and no issues. Relatively cheap at Walmart. Like $30

I picked up the Frabill Conservation Ultralight net last spring and have been really impressed.

I went with the 21x24 inch hoop and flat-bottom net bag to handle larger fish,

which I encounter a few times a year.

Since I didn't need the full 48-inch handle: which is carbon fiber, btw, and wicked light,

I trimmed it down to my preferred length and replaced the end cap.

Having been transformed (via cancer and an ankle wound that doesn't want to heal) into a primarily shore-fisherman, I picked up a Frabill Tangle Free Folding Net. It packs well, but opens into a decent size net with a 40" reach. I have used it on the boat, which sits up higher than a bass boat, without issue.

Will you be fishing for other species besides bass? Do you use lures with multiple treble hooks? There are pro and cons to every net style. Rubber nets are heavy, and typically have shallow baskets. If you fish for long fish, they don’t hold them very well. Conservation nets are terrible with treble hooks. You spend a lot of time trying to get hooks out, rubber nets are better with trebles. Telescopic handles are a big plus. Only you can decide which “features” fit what you do and will work best.

I use the Ego S1. It is a fixed length but I really don't think I have needed the extra length. You can get the net in different sizes and materials. They are a little pricey but well worth the money. If any part should break, Ego sells parts for your net. Also the handle matches my boat. 😁

think this is worth repeating...

This also depends on the fish you may catch. I now have a Frabill Conservation Series net that has a 24 by 28 inch head. If you have Muskies around you will want the bigger size. I have had a few giant muskies bite little tiny bass lures. One musky broke my rod and got away at the boat because I did not have the bite net.
