bwell Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I am good on any lake that lets gas power boats on with my little 3.5hp monster! lol That is one mean 3.5! lol You got that right! That little motor screams! Thanks again! Quote
birdman11 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Hi all! Been signed up for about a week now but just been lurking. Checking out the smallies forums. Im from mattoon, Il. 45 min south of champaign. I saw a charleston member on here... I fish Shelbyville exclusively, so if any of you guys get out this year let me know and id like to put some faces to names! I also dont like the hp restrictions it should be no wake!!! some of the best bass lakes have hp restrictions and my 150 wont do squat there! Quote

Me and Farmpond go to Shelbyville to do some Muskie fishing, but I have never been there for bass. Is it a pretty good bass lake? I have a 10' Pelican boat with trolling motor and I have a 3.5hp outboard to put on the back. Good thing is I can take it anywhere, but the bad thing is it only fits 2... Quote
birdman11 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Shelbyville can be a great bass lake. There is usually tournaments there every weekend, sometimes 2 or 3 clubs at a time. Illini Team Trail visits there 2 or 3 times a year as well. Im a hardcore crappie fisherman but do quite a bit of bass fishing too. South end of the lake is much better for bass numbers, but north end I would say is better for big fish. By south end I mean Findley Bridge or Eagle Creek-to the dam. Quote
bwell Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Cool cool, I'll have to check that out this spring/summer. Quote

I can say i have fished shelbyville and will probably be my main lake this spring/early summer. Ive always fished out near the coves in lithia but not with much luck. We had to rent boats from the marina so they were all underpowered and undersized. I wont run across that problem anymore. I got myself a tourny sport 175. Cant wait to drop that thing in and open it up full throttle. When is your first trip down there? like i said I have fished it but not properly. Shoot me a pm. Quote

Never fished Big Mich but wouldn't mind giving it a shot. Keep me posted From Chicago and never fished the Big Pond? You're missing out. I got a few spots that usually produce and one spot that always produces smallies. You'll also find largemouth in the harbors. Also have a couple of spots on the Chicago River for largemouth and crappie. Try fishing all the breakwalls downtown with tubes especialy the ones outside of Navy Pier. If the bass aren't hitting you can always fish for perch. If you have kids there is non stop rock bass fishing with live bait off of some of the breakwalls. Quote
