Maryland's Who's who!

Featured Replies

seeing tons of bass cruising in the shallow parts of coves in Piney Run, especially the deep coves that have a lot of shallow, sunny spots but its very hard to entice a bite. my friend has had some success with a wacky rigged senko and i got a few on a lake fork "live" magic shad. Im hoping they start spawning relatively soon

Went to Black Hills today and caught what is easily my PB.  Slowing swimming a senko with a chartreuse tail (again) and she inhaled it...I knew it was big when I set the hook, but I almost ticked on m

Went to Loch Raven today and caught a new PB.  Scale said 5 pounds even.  Caught her on a 1/2 oz. chartreuse Booyah spinnerbait.  Also would have had a PB chain pickerel but he bit me off right before

wv, don't think the spawn is over. They were probably up shallow looking for places to spawn. With the weather everything is behind this year. Problem is when they are in this mode they don't feed much, have to try to get a reaction bite.

Just noticed above your profile the "aka chatterface" and remember the story that went with it.

Thanks Brian. That's good. We usually do good before they spawn. Hope to get out again Sunday. Just curious if we try Black Hills if I could get your number again. I think it was you that offered directions if we got off track. Thanks.

Just wanted to check in see how the pre-spawn has been going for everyone so far.  I've managed to get out three time at Black Hills over the past two weeks- got skunked twice and caught two (lost  one) my first time out two weeks ago.  Definitely seems a lot slower than ususal.  I realize alot of it has to due to our prolonged winter, but I figured the recent warm weather would have turned the switch on.  How has everyone else been doing?

Not too good, I went out 4 times so far. Picked up 5 bass in total, and ALL of them are under 2lb. Last weekend I got skunked after 5 hours of fishing, but will try again this Saturday since the weather seems nice.

wv, I will send you a pm with my number. Just a heads up, I may not be available parts of saturday. Heading to the susky in Harrisburg PA for some smallie action. Not sure about cell signal up there.

Most everyone I have talked to has been having a slower than normal spring. Seems the up and down weather has everything all mixed up, the normal good period of fish moving up didn't occur. It was a quick move up and look for spawning areas which means they are cruising around and not eating. Have to go for reaction bites.

Black Hills is fishing a lot different this spring than the past 3 years but you can still catch some good fish. I have a club tournament there Sunday so I won't reveal what I BrianMD and I found but will tell you there is one bait working really well.

After you launch take a right at the Y towards the bridge and sore lip every bass on that side of the lake.

Hey guys, I haven't been on this site in a while as my fishing time has been dramatically cut since the birth of my daughter in 2010 and the birth of my son two months ago. I might be known to some of you as the guy who whipped the chatterbait into Brian's face, not one of my finer moments...  Anyway I have been given the OK to get the boat out tomorrow and I am trying to decide between driving down to Aquia to fish the Potomac or driving to Black Hills.  I fished black hills two weeks ago and only managed one dink but I know that when they get on beds that lake is the best in Maryland. I had fished exclusively in the Little Seneca Creek side and I am wondering if the Ten Mile side would be better. If they have moved up in the last few days Black Hills will be my choice but if not I will be slinging chatterbaits and traps on the River. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

And I did manage to run into Brian last time I was out and I know what bait was working for him, unfortunately I threw it for a few hours with nothing to show for it (probably fished all the water he had just been through after he vacuumed em all up!).

Welcome back stranger

I haven't been to BH since that day that Munkin put the beatdown on me but I would imagine they have to be around shallow wood somewhere.

I am heading up to fish the Susky in Harrisburg tomorrow. Hopefully will get into some 3-4 pound smallies.

That shouldn't be hard to do! Bring spinnerbaits!

Don't underestimate traps in the river.

Are you the one who had the dog with you?

Minnow,

My father and I used to canoe that stretch a lot in the late 90s and it could take anywhere from 3-6 hours depending  on how many spots we anchored on and fished.

Minnow,

Stopped at black hills on the way home and made some cast in the rain to make sure the fish were still there... Boat ramp in the A.M.

Anybody ever float from Brunswick to Point of Rocks?  Trying to figure out how long that may take.

I have been wanting to do that trip also. What do you use to float?

Anyone have any luck today? I am hoping to get out for a little bit tomorrow...

I still think black hills is in a funk but managed to get 8 to the boat. You could have did some wind surfing on the main lake today.

Had a decent day on the Susky yesterday, ended up with 10 smallies between 15 and 18 inches. Was not a clean day, lost 5 fish and broke one off on hookset. My boater got around 20, I lost count. He kicked my butt on tubes. Neither of us could get bit on moving baits, everything was on tubes or shakeyheads. The place is amazing though, every time you set the hook it is a good fish. Wish the wind had not kicked up as bad is it did. Made it very hard to fish the spots where we were finding most of the fish.
