Thanks for Munkin I finally got the skunk off my back for 2014, ended up with 2 fish yesterday at Black Hills. One 18in and one 19in largemouth. Now he provided me a beat down also, he got 8 fish to my 2 but it was a good learning experience for me.

I don't know anything about where I am or where I can get to yet at black hills. I fished off the 1st pull off headed toward the bridge on Clarksburg rd. I saw on the map it was no hard trail so I figured it would have less people. How much of this place can I fish? It looked vast coming over the bridge. There was another pull off there I Uturned at but I didn't fish it.

Headed to culler to fish in the wind. Here now until 730. In a bright orange shirt if anyone comes out say hello lol.

Lendiesel, you can almost fish the whole lake which is roughly 500 acres. You were out on 121, between where you were and 270 there is Old Baltimore road, right were the road did an S curve. Take a right and about a mile down on the right is the entrance to the park. A lot of places to park and walk the shore. That is what I did when I first moved here, just walked and fished looking for areas I can get fish.

Honestly the biggest fish I have caught (23.5") and the biggest I know that was caught (8.2lbs) both were under that bridge. The bridge is a good starting point for fishing and if I had any info for how to get to shore bound spots I would post it. I will tell you that even though I am fishing from a boat all the fish we caught Sunday were within a cast length from shore and accessible from it.

Nice Thanks guys. We are going to have to hook up and fish sometime. I am thinking I will be up again this Saturday weather permitting. I will post results.

I guess all this rain is going to kill the upper potomac for this weekend, just when it was getting back to normal.

I will be taking several youngsters fishing at Deep creek lake this weekend. Does anyone know a good shoreline or pier access at DCL?

The boat ramp entrance has a good bit of shoreline and some docks. That's really the only place I know of.

The boat ramp will be busy but the shoreline to the left as you are facing the ramp is a good area to fish. Another area to look at is the cove to the left of the ramp, I am not sure what the official name is as I have always heard it referred to as state park cove. There is a small bridge going across the cove that leads to the ramp that is good and a large dock that is owned by the state in that cove that are both good fishing. All the other areas that I know of from shore are private property as far as I know?

If you want anymore info just send me a Pm and I will respond.

Hey guys.  Sorry that I've been kinda quiet lately.  I've been fishing all winter, but also have had a lot of other stuff going on so I've been away from posting on forums for a bit.  This post is about a trip that I took last weekend that had tough fishing, but still was fun.  Good company, good scenery, and a few nice fish away from the beaten path is what it's all about for me any more.

My buddy Howard hit a small lake a couple hours from home that is one of our favorite day trips.  Expectations were high considering our success here the past few years, as we proceeded to launch the S.S. Fat Boy.  It was nice getting the boat in the water after having it sit in my carport until I had the money to fix the trailer.

Another buddy, Rodger wanted to fish with us that day too, so he brought his scanoe and fished solo.  We’d cross paths throughout the day, mostly to make sure that he was OK and also to see if he was into fish or not.  We had the option of fishing three out of my boat if things weren’t working out for him.  Other than learning to control his scanoe on a windy day, he did pretty well, including catching chain pickerel for the first time.  I think this was his second chainside.

A fish pic, with Rodg having a death grip on the slime rocket!

And for good reason too…these things have teeth, so of course, we told him not to lip them.  He took the advice.  I wish that I had paid more attention to my own advice.  One nice sized chain pickerel that I tried to measure (and didn’t get a length) flipped over the boat and raked his teeth across my hand during his escape:

This pickerel cooperated for a measurement later in the day and went 23 ½” long.  The toothy critter wasn't very long, but was fat and had a big head!

Howard tied into the pickerel too, landing the longest one  that measured 24”:

Conditions were tough during the day, but we did manage to catch a few bass in the process.  Here’s Howard with a decent one.  Most of the bass were on the small side on this trip.

Howard caught a couple slab crappie on a plastic worm, giving him the multi-species award for the day.  I had one hooked and lost it at the boat on a Rat-L-Trap earlier.

What a great day out there.  The fishing was on the tough side, but the company and scenery were fantastic.  When I want my mind to drift, here is where it goes:

It’s another world altogether with those beautiful cypress trees:

Howard battling a pickerel in the upper end of the lake in some really skinny water.  The bigger bass boats don’t venture up this far.

I finished with thirteen bass and seven chain pickerel.  Howard had similar numbers.  The crankbait bite was hot early, then completely died.  After that, plastic worms were the ticket.  I had seven bite offs to annoy me!  Howard picked up some fish on a chatterbait too.  It was a fun trip, but we were pretty beat at the end of the day.  Even though it was a Friday, there were more boats on the lake than I can ever recall.  Still, I can’t wait to get back there.

Pretty sure its Smithville Lake on the Eastern Shore.  The boat ramp and the concrete embankment in the back of one of the pics give it away.  Wish I still lived down there.  One of my favorite lakes in that area to fish.  Caught quite a few quality fish out of there.

MD sleeping today or what? 2 nights in the mid 30's and everyone shuts up....lol

Weekend should be nice, it is in the upper 60's and plan to go out to do some damage.

yeah mon, plan on doing the same....I did see gusts to 25 on Saturday though.....should make it a little more challenging.

Walked the banks at Loch Raven yesterday and found some new spots.  I didn't catch anything but my wife got 2 chain pickerel.
