basser89
Hey zam! Let us know how you did!
zam
I did pretty good, I fished near Hart/Miller island in the upper Bay and caught a bunch of Bass up to 10lbs!! Only problem was they were the kind with stripes ;D I also caught some white perch and a catfish all of them jigging a hopkins spoon. I didn't even try to target LM Bass, there was just to much boat traffic in the rivers
basser89
Now there's something I've never hooked into, a striper. I've managed one small hybrid on Liberty the one time I was there but that was it. I have a few friends that fish for them but haven't had a chance to hit the water with them. I get the same thing out my way on the Potomac. In the summer, if there's any depth to the water all you get are the big cruisers and jet skiers flying around and they have ZERO regard for smaller crafts! I've all but been thrown out of my boat by one and I won't go back to that section unless the temps are too cold for those goofballs to be out! basser89
Hey Boett and VAfisherinMD and anyone else around Frederick. I stopped by Middletown pond this evening, most of the slop on the top is gone! I had a decent top water bite going until the t-short rolled in this evening. I managed 3 before it hit on a Pop-R. Once I figured out the cadence, it was practically back to back to back! I was talking to another guy that was fishing and he got on a decent lipless crankbait bite from what he was telling me. Just thought I'd share that with you guys! Oh, one more thing, looks like they finally treated the pond for the algea. I still had a pretty strong bluish tint to the water. warwickforlife
Howdy all Just fished on the Potomac this past Friday. I usually fish at Loch Raven, so I'm not used to fishing in a river with current. Any advice on what to fish with in there? I'm fishing near by Harpers Ferry I think...where I was fishing I could see the bridge that goes to VA. Any advice would be amazing. Only fish I caught were on crankbaits....current seemed to strong to throw worms (I usually fish only with senko's) Thanks guys!!
vanquish
Hey warwick. Try using some inline spinners like panther martin's or joes flies. You can also use worms if you put some weight on them to keep them down. I like the cone weights you slide on the line before your hook, they bounce a little and seem to help attract the fish. I just got back a little bit ago from fishing smallies in the creek and had really good luck with the spinners. You can also pick up trout with them as well if there are any left in there. basser89
A last minute decision on the way home landed me at the pond in Middletown this evening. I decided to see if the top water bite was still on but alas, no takers. So I switched up to a lipless crank (actually one I had just got in the flea market) and landed 2 right off the bat. They went 1 1/2lbs and 2lbs. And then the bite slowed for a while. Managed 2 more (dinks) on the lipless crank before it got dark. I decided to give the top water one more chance before I left and hooked into another 2lbr. That was a pretty cool bite! It didn't come up and slam it like they were the other day. It sucked it down and the rod loaded up! Put up a pretty good fight too. I actually thought it was bigger than it was, it was fighting about twice its size! LOL. warwickforlife
I am in love with the Potomac! So used to fishing a weed choked reservoir (Loch Raven) so the river is awesome. Caught four or five little smallies (8'') a HUGE sunfish, and a nice walleye. Don't know if he was big, because I've never caught one before, but he was about 20'' and full of teeth. I'm fishing near Harpers ferry...anyone know anything good about "Point of Rocks"?
basser89
Welcome to THE boards SWH! That's a decent walleye warwick! Surveys from earlier in the year predicted very good potential for citation sized (26"+) walleye this year. Teeth??? Nah, they only have a couple! ;D Can't help you out with that section of the Potomac, I haven't ventured down that far yet. I could probably give you some good suggestions on what baits would work but can't help with the areas.
warwickforlife
Are you saying you fish even further North than Harpers Ferry? My friend and I know that they catch big greens (5lb +) down on the southern Potomac. Is it good fishing further north? We were throwing mostly spinners and spinner baits. Any other suggestions? Hey warwickforlife, Keep in mind, I live in Williamsport so yes, I fish further west than Harpers Ferry. Mostly up above dam 3 to dam 4 but I have ventured out to dam 5 and a handful of places west of that yet. I'll send ya a PM shortly!
J P
warwick, i posted on your "potomac" thread too, but I suggested using a zoom ultravibe speedcraw in green pumpkin on a 1/8oz shaky head. I fish the upper around that area a good bit, and that seems to catch the majority of my fish.
spothogg
Hello, I fish the UP from a jet. It's been a slow summer so far. Wife had ankle surgery first of July and I have been cook, house keeper and sitter for a month now.

Wife had ankle surgery first of July and I have been cook, house keeper and sitter for a month now. Hey spothogg, What areas do you fish? Nothing specific, just wondering if we may have crossed paths before. Sadly, my boat hasn't seen much action yet this year (truck problems) so I feel your pain with time on the water!!!! basser89
Almost forgot to mention this! This coming wednesday is a late night fishing at Black Hills! If everything goes well (getting the part I need for the truck), I'll be there! As of right now, I'll be fishing by myself (again, if everything goes well). Not sure what time I'm going to get there yet, but I'll probably fish until 11 or so.
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 2, 2009 Super User Share Posted August 2, 2009 Another part for the truck??? Dude you are going to have a new truck soon. Hopefully you will make it out for the night fishing, I hear it can be really good fishing. I won't be there, I have the first round of my dart playoff's.
