MDbassinmike
Hey everyone! It's been a while since I was on here. Been fishing many times since that last time and have caught many fish. Went twice last week to Rocky Gorge and here are a couple of pictures from the outings.
wifisherman
Well wish me luck I am off to this lake next to our apartment. I hope i can avoid the catfish and find a base today!!
wifisherman
Well no luck today. I had two bites for all I know it could have been a catfish. We might try to go back tonight and do a little night fishing, but we have been fishing this lake off and on for months and landed maybe 3 fish out of it. 2 catfish and a rainbow trout lol. basser89
Nice bass Mike! Glad to see you're still tearin them up! wifisherman, hope you had a good outing over the weekend! I've made it out on occassion now and again. Mostly fishing the C&O canal at Williamsport. I've managed a few dinks here and there on a variety of baits (7" worms, Rage Toads, Skitter Pop and of course a spinnerbait). I've heard there are some solid largemouths in there but hadn't seen any until over the weekend. Saw a solid 5lbr cruising, unfortunately she wasn't interest in the jigs I was throwing but that was a good sign. This past saturday, a very good friend of mine and I hit the upper Potomac for some smallie action. Luckily, the water had toned down some and was a fishable stained color. Between the 2 of us, we scrapped out 10 smallies on jerkbaits and cranks. Our biggest one went 16 1/2" and was caught on a crankbait. I felt pretty good about our results since it was only the second time we hit this area on my boat. The other good part of the outing was this was the first time I had the chance to test out the outboard I picked up. It ran great! Here's a pick of the biggest smallie we boated. wifisherman
Nice pic basser. No we did not catch anything. I had a couple bites by some logs with a green frog but nothing solid. spinners, cranks, jigs and tubes were all for not lol. plus our motor died on us and we had to paddle back to shore. it was still a better day then being at work. basser89
Thanks wifisherman! That guy fought like you wouldn't believe! He kept bull dogging me for a while before I got him to the surface (and he still kept trying to get to the bottom). I would have sworn it was a lot bigger than 16 1/2" had he got off. ;D Sorry to hear about the motor breaking down on you! That really stinks! Hope you get it up and running again soon! Had we had issues with my outboard, I would have had to let my partner out so he could go get the trailer and meet me down at the next ramp down, the current was that strong in the area of the Potomac we were fishing. There's no way I could have put the boat back on the trailer with the trolling motor only!
warwickforlife
Hey there Wifisherman. I fish at Loch Raven about 3 or 4 times a week. I usually fish from the shore, but if you're in a boat, go out from the docks, and than go to the right. Go past the bridge, and you'll see a cove with an island on your left. That cove is PACKED with Large Mouths, all sorts of various pan fish, and Chain Pickeral. Some of the pickeral are big...I've caught a few that were 20 inches or so. Good luck! Thanks for the info next time we go we will have to try it. We are about to go up to lake elkhorn up by columbia has anyone been up there lately? we went last night and it is pretty grassy. lots of weeds and muck. perfect conditions for bass although we did not find any. it is really shallow about 3 to 4 feet. Just wondering if anyone has been up that way latley.
wifisherman
Well the wife and I went to that lake in columbia the other day. It was an ok day only 2 fish but at least we narrowed down what part of the lake they are on now so the next time maybe it will be a little better. basser89
Ah, a spinnerbait bite! Nice! Learning the lake is half the battle! Tear 'em up next time!

Super User BrianinMD Posted June 28, 2009 Super User Share Posted June 28, 2009 Nice Boett, glad to hear you got into a few. I am hoping to get out this Thursday, thinking of putting the boat in at Black Hills or Cunningham Falls. Haven't been out recently myself need to get my fix soon...... basser89
Cool deal Boett! Glad to hear they're still hitting down that way! I hit Middletown the end of last week and WOW!!! That place looks like crap! I can't believe this time 2 years ago, I was tearing them up on a Spittin Image and now you can't fish much more than a frog or toad! I did manage 2 small ones on a Spro Bronze Eye frog in there (biggest might have gone a pound and a half). Good luck Brian!
Boett43
middletown is pretty hard to fish now, even the frog bites are hard to come by, any idea on what would cuase all that alge to grow?. i dont remeber it ever being that bad.
VAfisherinMD
I was at Middletown over the weekend as well & the algae is so thick that you are limited to top water lures only. I enjoy top water lures as much as the next guy, but being one dimensional is frustrating.
basser89
This is JUST a guess but I can tell you the pond has gotten worse since they started using the algaecide to help "control" the grass. I wonder if they're treating the pond with something too strong and this is the affect its having. I'll see if one of my contacts at DNR can shed some light on the situation. I agree with you VAfisherinMD, it was pretty sad that I couldn't even throw a weightless plastic worm without getting 4 pounds of crap wadded up on the front of the bait. :-/
basser89
What's up Maryland??? Things have been slow for me lately. Been managing to fish from shore here and there (mostly on the C&O canal in Williamsport) and catching a few small bass. FINALLY got my truck back on the road so I can cover a few more places! Well, this evening on my way home from work, I decided to stop off at a small community pond that I haven't had much luck with in over 2 years (I actually wrote DNR about it to see if they removed the bass from the pond). Well, I finally turned the corner on the dink page I've been writing. LOL! While I only caught 3 this evening, I had almost 10 pounds worth of bass in those 3. Largest one went just over 4 pounds (on an analog scale). The other 2 went 3lbs and 2 1/2lbs. Caught the two biggest on a spinnerbait and the other was on an X-Rap. All three put up a really good fight too! I checked the water temp and was surprised at the temp. It was only 74 degrees. :-? Found that to be a little odd for this time of year. I'll post a pic of the 4 pounder I caught as soon as I get it downloaded from the phone. How's everyone else been doing?
basser89
Here's the pic of the 4 pounder I caught earlier this evening.
Super User BrianinMD Posted July 15, 2009 Super User Share Posted July 15, 2009 Been very slow the last few weeks, haven't been skunked yet but only 1 or 2 small bass. Been trying everything I can think of with the same results. Hopefully my trip to the river tomorrow will give me some good smallie action. Thinking about taking some bait for catfish with me just in case I get to one of the deep holes and want to anchor. Debating because I have not had the boat in the river before so other thought is to stick with bass while I go around learning the river..... Super User BrianinMD Posted July 15, 2009 Super User Share Posted July 15, 2009 Well on second thought.... checked the weather for tomorrow, the storms are the late in the day variety I thought. They are starting in the morning, so I am not taking the boat out. Time for some more bank fishing, hopefully I can get out of my slump and get a few before the storms hit. Anyone else going out?
