It seems like this is the starting point for most swimbaiters. It was my first combo, then I upgraded to a Loomis + Calcutta : . I know a few of my buddies started on this combo as well. You won't be dissapointed. It's the beginning of the end for you my friend ;D .

Weedless Hudds
Well as soon as I saw this bait, Lake "X" came to mind. This lake makes fishing the bottom and anything with exposed hooks nearly impossible. It has hydrilla coming up to the top 5 feet in most spots along the bank. This will be a true test for the "Weedless Hudd". I think it's a great idea and I've never been disappointed with anything that Ken has come out with. I do really like more of the "Hidden" line tie. I think a lot of people will benefit from the weedless design. You should be able to really get in the "Muck" with it more so than the original Hudd, especially rocks, trees, etc. I'm not very excited for the 6in version, but I will pick one up. I'm very excited for the 8in though, I hope they come out with that pretty quick. I am anxious to see how the hook ups are. Obviously it's just like if you were to texas rig a worm, but in this case, the worm won't slide up the line. Can't wait to see a good review on this bait.

What new rod and/or reel did you get for Christmas??
G Loomis MBR844C + Chronarch 100B. Since nobody got me a combo I had to get it myself

The Official 'Post What You Got For Christmas' Thread
Most of the family and friends revolted against my fishing addiction, so the only fishing related item I got was a $50 TW gift card and a vice to start tying jigs. But I did just go and buy myself a G-Loomis/Chronarch Combo ;D . Cant wait for it to come!!!!

thnx Branuss04, I actually have 3 200's and really like them, I use to only throw Garcia rounds, and did hav 1 Lews. I liked the rounds alot but wanted to try something new so went w/ Curados. It appears alot of guys run the rounds for swimbaits I wasny sure the LP Curados would be up to the task. I wouldn't expect the 200's and 100's to be up to the task, but I have no doubt in my mind that the curado 300 could throw those small to mid size baits with ease. I've chatted with a shimano rep before and he informed me that these are made for those baits. Give Bantam1 a message and see what he says about them. I beleive the reason most guys use the Round reels is personal preference. I've used a buddies 300D before for throwing hudds. and it just felt weird. They handled them well though.

If someone asked you....
If somebody was stupid enough to ask ME that question I would tell them "Because it's better than hanging out with YOU!!"

Maybe even check out the Curado 300 if your into LP's

Am I the only one??
No, i'm in the same boat.... but I only have to work sit here for 4 hours. It's going to be a long 4 hours though.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think i remember you saying your throwing smaller baits (under 3.5oz). If I were to only be throwing small baits, I would get the cardiff 300. I see no need for the extra weight and line capacity when your only using 20# and under line. If you might be throwing bigger baits, i'd go with the 400.

storing rods
I actually think this is legal in all states except for California. I wouldn't be suprised, we already have enough stupid laws >... what's one more . I told myself I was going to take the reels off when storing them, but I never keep them stored long enough to make it worth my efforts. So I just loosened the drag.... unitl I missed a big bite because I didn't check my drag when I got on the water. So now I keep them the locked tight and reels attached. I don't notice any negatives to this.... at least not now

Cranky
I have this rod paired with a curado 100D. This is a GREAT for shallow to medium divers along with lipless cranks and jerkbaits of all sizes. This rod is able to throw deep divers, but I feel it is underpowered for the resistance of a DD22. I've been able to pull in 5-7 #ers pretty well. IMO it's a good CB stick. If you see yourself throwing deep divers more often, i would suggest getting something a bit more powerful.

K.I.S.S.
I totally agree with you. I enjoy the challenge of fishing.... thats why I do it. I'm sure if I were to throw the same lures all the time, I would get bored quick. But I do think there is fine line of simplicity and overthinking.

Soft SB Necessities
X INFINITE!!!!! Can't stress enough on the importance of these for big baits. Saved a few hundred dollars in the few times I've used it. They are so cheap, it's stupid not to have one. They pay for themselves the first time you use them

Scouting Lakes
I did this last year when our lakes were only 70 feet down thinking that I could get some really good deep structure located and even shallow and mid stuff so when our lakes filled up this year, I could knock them dead..... i'm still waiting for the lakes to fill. They are currently down over 100 feet this year. All of our big lakes are less than 50% of capacity. > It really sucks, but scouting the lake I found some pretty cool stuff. Like cars, boats, bridges, areas that become 15 foot isolated ponds when the water drops. It's definately a plus to walk the shorline with a GPS, you get a totally different look at your lake. I always found myself saying, WOW.... a can totally see a DD sitting there.

Soft SB Necessities
I use "Pro's Soft Bait glue". It's kinda expensive, but It lasts me a couple years. I don't use scents very often. Mainly when I buy new baits that smell horrible i'll soak it overnight in Pro Cure. Sometimes in dingy water i'll add some scents as well.

Swimbait?
I took a look at the Dobyns, nice for the price, I even found it for $129 shipp'd, also looked at the Okuma, TackleTour gave it a good write up, Powell's are nice. Like I mentined earlier Im really not sure I want to go the whole new rod route, Im trying to put some cash away for a bigger boat, thats why I was hoping I could use what I have. Thanks for all the help so far guys. Stick with the okuma. You can even find them around for $70. They carry a good warranty and are pretty tough to beat. I've kept away from those cheap dobyns just because of the warranty with them. They are only good till the end of 2009... that scares me!!! I'd rather put my money in a rod with a lifetime warranty. just my .02.

Santa Claus came early...(aka Xmas exchange results thread)
You must have a lot of will power. I had my package open before I left the parking lot to the Post Office. Thanks a bunch Shaun, I've been looking at that Top Dawg for awhile now and the Minnows I have are getting extremely beat up. I actually caught my first fish over 5 on the minnows. They are a pretty slick bait. Your the Man . By the way, you have one more package coming, it's something I couldn't fit in the box and didn't have a box big enough, you'll probably get it at the beginning of the year. Thanks again Shaun!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
