Differences between Mag Bass GLX and Jig/worm GLX?
I would give the BCR series a slight advantage because of the faster actions and Recoil guides, these increase sensitivity slightly.

Losing the big ONE.....
Try using your thumb instead of the drag when you are fighting one close to the boat or shore. Engage the spool and pressure it with your thumb to allow the fish to take line. It works for me.

Trout fishing with bass gear help?
Put the lightest line you can get away with on the lightest spinning rod and reel combo you have. Monofilament is OK, but Fluorocarbon is better (it is less visible). For lures, I like to use Panther Martin Spiners in the 1/32 oz size. Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout are my favorite colors. You can also use live crickets, grasshoppers, or worms on a #8 or #10 hook. Make sure you are aware of the regulations for the streams you are fishing, on most wild streams only single hook artificial lures are allowed. Good luck.

ugly stick question
The biggest problem with Ugly Sticks is their sensitivity. I would keep the Ugly Stick and use it for Catfish and Bluegill, when sensitivity isn't really needed. Then you wouldn't have to return your gift and you could still get a nice rod for bass fishing.

Big Bass in little pond?
There's probably one or two good ones in there, but a 1/2 acre pond is pretty small. You should take a good amount of the small ones out as long as you are allowed to.

Inexpensive baitcasters
You want a baitcaster that is very user friendly as your first one. I would save up for a Citica E. You can get them for around $90 new on eBay.

Sammy or Spook
I like Sammies the best but I also throw the Spook Puppy a lot. My favorite times to use them is during the early post spawn and in the fall when shad are schooling, but they work all year long.

throwing light baits on baitcaster?
There are several baitcasters that can throw a lightweight bait much farther than 25', and they don't come with all of the problems spinning reels create.

Michael Vick to the Eagles.....where you at Philly fans?
The guy darted out into a six lane highway. Stallworth probably would not have been able to avoid him even if he was sober. He did make a very bad decesion to drive that morning, and he deserved punishment, but there was more to the story.

Newbie makes first purchase!
That's a very nice first set-up. I would go with Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon or Sunline FC Sniper for the line.

Light tackle baitcaster??
x2 I just bought one of these and they are incredible at casting light lures. And it's also a great price for one.

Losing Senkos...
They're softer and have a lot more action on the fall.

Very nice work on those TDZs. Have any extra cork knobs you want to sell?
-
Need for spinning gear?
I don't think there is a need for them unless you skip docks all day.
